Dr. Raphael Pazo is a professional bagpiper, music professor and performer with 35+ years of experience playing the Great Highland Scottish Bagpipes (GBH) at various types of events, based in Lodi (Stockton area) and serving all Northern California.
Dr. Raphael Pazo, Musical Director of Music and Elegance and Distinction with decades of experience performing at Weddings, Celebrations of Life Services (funeral, memorial, graveside committals and burials at sea), Anniversaries and Birthdays, Scottish, Irish and Welsh Cultural Events, Private Parties, Corporate Events, Military and Law Enforcement Events (graduations, promotions, memorials and remembrances, Civic Events, Film and Radio Productions, Educational Presentations, Celtic Cultural Presentations and any other event requiring the Majestic Sound of the Great Highland Bagpipes. He enjoys playing both "light music" (marches, reels, jigs, hornpipes, strathspeys, slow airs ) as well as "Piobaireachd", the classical music of the Scottish Great Highland Bagpipes.
He began his musical education at the age of 8 a as violinist. He studied at the Music Institute Juan Morel Campos, the San Juan, Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and is a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, Spain, where he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Music, his major field of study being a violinist and an symphonic and philharmonic orchestra conductor. He is also a talented arrange and composer. Dr. Pazo attended the California summer sessions of The College of Piping, based I Glasgow, Scotland, the Piping Centre of the World with members of the faculty of the College of Piping, Staff of the Army School of Piping at Edinburgh Castle, in Inverness and Skye, Scotland, United, Kingdom. He has also received private lessons form piping professionals Iain Whitelaw of California and Bill Livingstone of London, Ontario, Canada.
Besides being a professional bagpiper, Dr. Pazo plays several other instruments, including: Scottish, Welsh, Irish and Spanish Bagpipes (gaitas); violin, viola, violoncello, bass; classical guitar, mandolin, ukulele, recorders (English Medieval Flutes - all ranges from Sopranino, Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass; clarinet, cuatro and shofar. He also performs as a soloist (Baritone) in a variety of languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Latin, Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic. He enjoys Barbershop Quartet singing as a member of the Stockton Portsmen (local chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society) and sings Baritone in his own quartet, All in A-Chord.
He is a music instructor, composer and arranger. He is a U.S. Army Veteran and a life member of: Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled Veterans of America, AmVets - American Veterans and a member of the American Legion. He is Master Mason, Past Master and Former District Inspector and a member of Woodbridge Lodge 131, Anaheim Lodge 207 (Past Master in 2000) and Lodi Lodge 256, Free and Accepted Masons; San Francisco and Stockton Scottish Rite Bodies, The American Federation of Music Teachers, Past President and member of the International Guild of Professional Linguists and a member the Barbershop Harmony Society.
