The Metropolitan Trio is a jazz trio, swinging in the tradition of iconic groups like Nat King Cole Trio and Oscar Peterson Trio. The trio, comprised of the astoundingly under-utilized instrumentation of piano, guitar, and bass, approaches classic repertoire from the jazz cannon with an emphasis on rhythmic propulsion, with a sound that is both modern in conception and gentle enough on the ears for a wide variety of events.
The trio has pleased audiences at hundreds of events, club gigs, and restaurants, and will provide the ambience to make any event truly memorable. With a wide repertoire of tunes from the great american songbook, brazilian jazz, contemporary jazz, pop, and R&B, the Trio of Astounding Determination is the perfect musical addition to a variety of functions.
The Metropolitan Trio is comprised of three conservatory trained, highly experienced professionals. Russell Kranes (piano) and Alex Levine (guitar) have been close friends and collaborators since their time as students at the University of Michigan School of Music, and joined with Sam Weber (bass), an alumnus of Western Michigan University to form The Metropolitan Trio in June 2013.
