A guitarist in and around the Charlotte area for the last 15 years, Christopher Jones specializes in jazz. Able to play as a solo act, in a duo or, with his different trios, you are sure to find something to fit your occasion or special event. While the music is mainly instrumental it is not, however, limited to just jazz. Chris also covers classical, pop and rock. He is particularly fond of the Beatles, Neil Young, Elliott Smith, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Brian Wilson, Radiohead and a whole host of others. The repertoire is vast.
Listening to his trio with bassist John Shaughnessy and drummer John Spurrier you might hear everything from original compositions to standard fare. The Organic Trio which consists of guitar, hammond organ and drums, brings to mind the great organ trios of the 60s; made famous on the Blue Note label. This material is more groove and funk oriented.
Finally his newest trio, the BLT (or Bass-less Trio) features the instrumentation of guitar, trumpet and drums. Without the support of a bass player the trio is more free in their rhythmic structure and more elastic in their playing. Influenced by the great Paul Motian Trio, BLT plays a wide variety of material: everything from old classics: "The Days of Wine and Roses", by Henry Mancini; pop gems: "Strawberry Fields Forever" by Lennon and McCartney and even "Rainbow Connection", which was made famous in the Muppet Movie!
Whatever your need Chris will work with the client to make sure he comes up with the right combo for the occasion. Other instruments and or vocals can be added if needed.
