Planning a destination party doesn’t always require a plane ticket. With a little inspiration, creative décor, and the right entertainment, GigMasters’ client Anoop transformed his backyard into a Moroccan dream for his boyfriend’s birthday celebration.
The transformation started with Anoop building a tent (by himself) to house the intimate gathering of 14 guests. The tent was filled with decorative Moroccan touches such as pillows, hookahs, patterned rugs, and various lamps. “I sewed over 70 pillows by hand for the tent,” said Anoop. He also purchased all Egyptian themed fabrics for the tent covering and sheer curtains. While guests did not dress in Moroccan garb for the theme, Anoop kept the dress code casual comfortable so attendees would be at ease sitting on the floor. Anoop included some Indian and Soca music to give the party an authentic feel. He also added some Arabic belly dancing music which was a big hit, especially when accompanied by GigMasters’ member and belly dancer, Anna from Anna’s World Entertainment (New York, NY). “The belly dancer really tied into the event perfectly,” Anoop shared. “The sword tricks she used had the guest’s jaws wagging.” Anna also coordinated her costume with the colors of the pillows in the tent to further bring the theme together.
The food was all home-cooked from recipes found online, dinner also incorporated the Moroccan theme. Guests enjoyed a Moroccan lamb spread, lamb kebabs, rice pilaf, tuna bruouats, and lamb and potato samosas, among other popular dishes. “We decided that a home event would be a lot better than just doing dinner and a club,” said Anoop. “I focused on bringing Morocco to our backyard and a smaller group really made the event spectacular.”
