Mark and Amy's music will always flash us back to our special day." - Mark and Katie, married November 2014 Hoot and Holler is born from the love of American folk, nurtured from Boston's burgeoning string music scene, and inspired by the authenticity of the enduring spirit of traditional Appalachian mountain music. Sometimes they draw influences from Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, with their tender harmonizing on original songs that come across as simple, honest, yet freshly new to the ears. They also surrender to the essence of driving old time fiddle tunes: fast, shuffling, heavy foot stomping, and an unpenetrable groove. Described as the perfect cross section where the grit in sound is supported by their musicality and chops, you can expect the full range of temperament from Amy Alvey (fiddle, vocals) and Mark Kilianski (guitar, vocals) in any given performance. Since its formation, Hoot and Holler have entertained audiences all over the Northeast and Europe. In the summer of 2013 and 2014, they joined the Massachusetts Walking Tour with Mark Mandeville and Raianne Richards, where they hiked 200 miles through different towns in Massachusetts to play free community concerts. Their new EP "Nothing If Not Young" was released on October 29, 2014, supported by an East Coast tour from Virginia to Massachusetts. In January 2015 they leave for their first West Coast tour spanning from Orange County, CA all the way to Seattle, WA. Mark graduated Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA (2010) in Jazz Composition. By day he earned a degree in Jazz Composition, studying under Greg Hopkins, Bob Pilkington, and Ken Pullig. But in the nighttime, Mark picked up his acoustic and dove into the wild world of Trad/Folk music that thrives in Boston, learning all about Bluegrass, Celtic, Cajun, Quebecois, and other fiddle-based styles at jams and tuneswaps across the city. Straight out of Berklee, Mark dedicated himself to performing, writing, recording, and handling business in Alt-Bluegrass band, The Whiskey Boys. Mark and his co-captain, fiddler David Delaney, released two CDs: Mary Come To Boston, and Crescent Moon, featuring Mark's singing, guitar playing, song and tune writing, arranging, and production skills. The Whiskey Boys created a self-sustaining business model, touring all over the Northeast, playing venues like Portland's Blue, Radio Bean, The Firebox, New England Americana Festival, The Putney School, Indie Music Night, Rodeo Bar, Brooklyn Country Fest, North Branch Bluegrass Festival, Milkboy Café, and several house concerts. Recently returned from his two month soul journey through Louisiana and Texas, Mark is working on a solo album and various projects with other great musicians in Boston and New Jersey. He is seeking work as a freelancer and sideman in the Northeast region on acoustic and electric guitar for 2013 and beyond.? Amy graduated from Berklee College of Music in Performance in the midst of the American Roots Music Program (2011). Though she is mostly self-taught, she has studied with innovators of The New Acoustic Music scene, such as Matt Glaser, Darol Anger, Bruce Molsky, Eugene Friesen, John McGann, and Mimi Rabson, to name a few. She performed at Carnegie Hall in April of 2007 as the principal chair of the second violin section. Since graduating, Amy has toured extensively in the Northeast and England (UK) with the band Mighty Tiny and with singer-songwriter Laura Jorgensen, who won the open category of the International Acoustic Music Awards with her song, The Most Beautiful Fear. Amy currently freelances and has performed with Boston locals Patrick Coman and the Lo-Fi Angels, Amy Kucharik, and Joe's Truck Stop. She released a CD in October 2012 called "Big Ten", which also features Mark's guitar playing.
