Teja Gerken is an internationally acclaimed acoustic guitarist who has shared the stage with many of today's best-known fingerstyle instrumentalists, including Andy McKee, Kaki King, Alex de Grassi, John Renbourn, Peppino D'Agostino, the San Francisco Guitar Quartet, and many others.
Weaving together influences of folk, jazz, classical, and world music into a style that is uniquely his own, Teja's playing reflects his diverse musical interests. While many of his composition employ alternate tunings, two-handed tapping, percussive effects, and other extended guitar techniques, others simply rely on his keen sense of melody and movement. Within this framework, Teja has created a repertoire that appeals to fellow guitarists as well as to general listening audiences, and while original material is his main focus, he can also be found playing Irish traditionals, the occasional jazz standard, or themes by famous classical composers.
Besides keeping an active schedule of playing many of the San Francisco Bay Area's most respected venues, Teja has many years of experience with playing private settings, such as weddings, parties, or corporate events. He is well versed in the flow of such events, and will provide the appropriate amplification if necessary (even battery-powered for outdoor settings!).
Teja has two CDs of solo guitar music available, 1999's “On My Way,” and 2005's “Postcards.” Both are available via iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, etc. and have received high acclaim in the guitar press.
Teja is happy to discuss your events particular needs with you, and he can also put together a package with additional musicians if requested.
