2004 GUITAR IDOL CHAMPION "ONE OF THE BEST INDEPENDENT ARTISTS IN THE MIDWEST" -Billboard Magazine
Hello, Thank you for your interest in my profile. I hope I can help make your event a big success! My name is Jim Green and I play fingerstyle guitar instrumentals and sing. My playing style is percussively unique, fun and entertaining (see video embedded in this profile). This works great for wedding cocktail hours and bars. If it's something more romantic or ambient you're looking for, I can do that too (please listen to audio examples). I've been playing guitar for 31 years with the last ten as a full-time professional. In those years I've gained experience playing weddings, yoga studios, bars, opera houses, house concerts, corporate events, libraries, wine bars, restaurants, private parties, etc.. I've played venues like The Arcada in St. Charles and The Woodstock Oprea House. I've opened up for well know artists such as Johnny Rivers, CCR and fingerstyle great Muriel Anderson.
Let's talk about your event.
Trying to narrow down a genre or describe what acoustic guitarist Jim Green sounds like, is a little like trying to keep this ultra athlete and adventurer in one place. Deciding that the well-worn paths that other musicians adhere to were not the proper routes for his own creativity, he draws forth musical inspiration from nature and the human spirit in a fresh and compelling way. This Chicago native creates enchanting new age finger-style instrumentals to percussively driven solo acoustic guitar folk/rock songs utilizing percussive rhythms, harmonics, and tapping with a piano-like approach that is both musically and visually stimulating.
Jim's driving perfectionism to his music has brought him from an unknown Chicago street musician to gaining the attention of the Editors at Billboard Magazine who named him "One of the best independent artists in the Midwest". His latest record True North has received rave reviews and airplay on over 180 radio stations across the US and Canada including NPR's Echoes program.
When this "2004 Guitar Idol" is not on the trail exploring or pushing his physical limits, he is on road playing house concerts or at various other venues such as festivals, wine bars and folk clubs. Currently in the works is an inspirational multimedia library program featuring Jim's music and previous wanderings.
Although Jim and has gained much interest for his unusual percussive playing style, he considers himself a songwriter first, a guitarist second. Because of this, he often quotes his biggest musical influence, Michael Hedges, who said, "I'm not trying to play the guitar. I'm trying to play music. That's the difference right there."
