MMC Acoustic Duo from Chicago, IL

"Wow, I can't believe these guys played that song on acoustics!", is one of the more common phrases you might hear at a MMC gig. Both veterans of the music industry, playing well over 1000 gigs in projects ranging from metal bands to gospel choirs, Mike Gallagher and Matt Hoffer decided to finally get in a room and jam after watching each other perform for 5 years at an annual House of Blues benefit. After playing only a few tunes, Mike and Matt knew they had instant chemistry and a unique approach to playing cover tunes that created a very big sound for two people. They dubbed themselves "MMC" based upon an inside joke, and started booking shows. Blessed with the ability to play both guitar and piano with the chops of a seasoned session musician, all while singing and keeping the rhythm with both feet for good measure, you could say that Mike is literally a one-man band. With a very schooled background in jazz, gospel and R&B as well as rock and pop, Mike's taste and knowledge of music catalogues is equally as diverse, weaving in and out of covers ranging from Prince to Zeppelin with ease. By contrast, Matt Hoffer grew up on metal, rock and acoustic singer songwriter tunes, bringing a bit more of a gritty rhythmic element. He rounds out the instrumentation with percussive and skilled chops on both the traditional and baritone acoustic, as well as a powerful voice that can cover a number of different genres. Together, Matt and Mike offer a slightly different take on the traditional acoustic duo. They understand that all the chops in the world don't mean anything if you aren't entertaining and playing songs that are appropriate for the occasion.
