Homemade JAM Ingredients: Take the brilliant and best songwriting of the 20th Century--Tin Pan Alley, jazzy standards, blues and jug band tunes from the '20s into the '30s. Stir in some of Southern CA's top live players. Add a female vocalist who can play both the charming ingenue and the femme fatale (and tap dances!), and don't forget the male lead vocalist who knows hundreds of songs from the era and sings them with relish. Pour on delicious harmonies. Sprinkle humor and a wonderful audience rapport on top.
The songwriters of the Tin Pan Alley era churned out some of the greatest tunes in the history of American music-- catchy songs like “Bye Bye Blackbird,” “Yes Sir, That's My Baby,” "Babyface," and “Blue Skies.” Always fun and exuberant with serious musicianship and vocal chops, Homemade JAM The Vintage Party Band brings alive this period of incredible songwriting with its exciting renditions of popular hits of the time and blues of the period. We use top local live players, with extensive and impressive professional resumes. We balance the up-tempo, sassy numbers with slower, sultry, smoldering tunes, making for great dance music. To up the fun factor, we throw in a little tap dancing and Charleston, which seems to surprise and delight audiences.
Always versatile, we can play as a trio, quartet, up to a sextet. We've added horn players on some of our gigs, which adds a whole new layer of sound to the mix. We can tailor the repertoire to your needs--if you prefer more the jazzy standards and Tin Pan Alley, we can leave out the vintage blues. We can provide a more acoustic sound or electric--you'll hear examples of both in the highlights video. Whatever you'd like! We have done gigs where we're more of a background dinner-music type band or ones where we're more up-front and raucous and encourage audience participation and dancing. Whatever fits your event needs best. We can dress up snazzy or be more like street musicians of the era. It's up to you!
Our videos are lively and high-energy...again, if you want quieter background music, we can certainly do that as we've done for restaurants that prefer quiet, subtle music.
OUR RATES ARE NEGOTIABLE and partly based on the number of musicians we use. We are highly professional, always arrive promptly and can provide our own sound equipment.
We also have testimonials from happy listeners. Here is a recent one received after we played in Monrovia two weeks ago:
"Samantha and the Homemade Jam Band - what a wonderful evening we had last night! If the price of tickets was based on how much fun we had - I probably couldn't afford it - Thousands of dollars!!!! Lucky me, I was with friends, the location was close, the food delicious and the service was great. The entertainment was exceptional! This is my full on "fan" letter but it is so sincere because I know how very deserving you all are - so hardworking and keeping the melodies of yesterday alive...just as it should be." --Judy Jalalat, Arcadia
People always leave our performances with a big exuberant smile. They can't help it. We love what we do and we love bringing the old tunes back to life for our audiences.
