"Bollywood Gharana" is a deliberate paradox, rather like "Rock and Roll Symphony". Teed Rockwell has created a new gharana (musical style) combining classical Indian ragas with Bollywood filmi music. He performs this music on a newly customized instrument called the touchstyle veena, which has a guitar-like fretboard played by tapping the strings simultaneously with both hands.

Bollywood Gharana is a new application of a method first developed by the great American Jazz musicians, who would transform the popular tunes of the day into new improvised compositions. Rockwell improvises on the melodies of A.R. Rahman, who won Oscars for his song and score for "Slumdog Millionaire". Rahman's songs for Indian films have sold more albums than Michael Jackson. His music is rapidly becoming more popular outside of India, and the natural tunefulness of his melodies makes him equally popular with Westerners who hear him for the first time.

Rockwell's Classical Indian Ragas are also widely used by customers who wished to set a spiritual mood for an event, or gentle background music with an exotic Indian quality.
