Group Members

  • David Schulman - violin

Description

Known best for his distinctive latin, jazz, and gypsy stylings, violinist David Schulman is also adept at styles including salsa, country, klezmer, tango, worldbeat, Paris cafe swing — and straight-ahead classical. David is comfortable mixing styles during a single gig — playing classical selections during a wedding ceremony, for example, then leading a Latin Jazz trio or a Gypsy swing band during the reception. He performs as a solo player, or leading groups of up to 7 members.

David also performs frequently with a loop station that allows him to layer multiple parts at once — allowing him to achieve a full, rich sound even when performing solo. Washington City paper described David's violin+loops performance as "spontaneous and completely unique ... it was hard not to be wowed; the audience certainly was."

David has performed at the DC Jazz Festival, the Phillips Collection, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, US Senate Offices, Capitol Pecha Kucha, the Embassy of Finland, and DC Ignite. Currently Musician-in-Residence of the internationally regarded DC-based dance company Dance Exchange, David is available for weddings, receptions, memorial services, fundraisers, dinners, corporate events, house parties and other events. His first album, "The Quiet Life Motel," is planned for release in 2012.

"A great addition to the festival — a unique performer whose violin
always draws a crowd"
— Sunny Sumter, Executive Director, DC Jazz Festival

  • I hired David to play during my marriage proposal and he truly ended up being the icing on the cake for our proposal! i could not have imagined it any better. His music was wonderful and he was amazing to work with. Everyone was impressed by his talent, charisma and poise. There is no doubt in my mind that I would recommend him or hire him again. He is awesome! -- Russell L, Washington, DC, 2/3/2012
  • The violin music was a very nice touch to our graveside service. I highly recommend Using a violinist and David Schulman in particular for this type of event. -- Tracy D, Rockville, MD, 2/17/2012
  • Mr. Schulman arrived early, was dressed professionally; without saying a word, he kissed my cheek and followed me to the burial site, as I stood before the burial site, he began to play, Sound of an Angel. It is a moment in time I will never forget. Beautiful sounds for my dear husband as he leaves this world. I plan on hiring Schulman Creative on a regular basis. He was a comfort to me at the hardest time of my life. Thank you so much. -- Candice H, Washington, DC, 4/25/2012
