DESCRIPTION:
If you like Jazz, this is the real thing! Performing in Boston, New York, and throughout New England, Boston Music Award Nominees (Best Jazz Artist), The Rusty Scott Quartet delivers the most tasteful jazz and swing for listening, dancing and background.Whether you're booking a club, restaurant or hotel, planning a wedding reception, fundraiser, corporate function, or house party, the Rusty Scott Quartet has the reputation, professionalism and experience to add the touch of class and excitement that will make your occasion one to always remember. Solo piano, duos, trios and quintets with vocalist, trumpet and/or guitar, our 7-piece Basie Big Band, and for a more bluesy change of pace, The Rusty Scott Hammond B3 Organ Group, are also available. The Rusty Scott Quartet plays a variety of jazz music from the 30's to the 90's by some of America's finest composers: Swing by Billy Strayhorn, Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Glenn Miller and others of the Big Band era; Latin by Jobim; and Be-bop by artists such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Johnny Griffin, and Thelonious Monk (please view our repertoire section for a detailed list.) The Rusty Scott Quartet have performed at First Night Boston, the Salem Jazz and Wine Festival, the South End Jazz Festival, the WFNX Jazz series at the Hatch Shell with guest Andy McGhee, the Regattabar with guest Billy Pierce, and “Live” on WGBH and WERS jazz radio among countless clubs, corporate and private functions, adding to their reputation as “the hardest working jazz band in Boston” along with their first nomination by the Boston Music Awards for “Best Jazz Artist.” Club, Concert Series and Festival shows include the critically-acclaimed Battle Of The Saxes with Bill Pierce (Jazz Messengers, Tony Williams) - which includes compositions from their next recording, as well as arrangements from the “Tough Tenors” and “Boss Tenors” Johnny Griffin, Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, Sonny Stitt and Gene Ammons trading eights and fours over breakneck tempos reminiscent of the great tenor battles of yesteryear! This show has been bringing audiences to their feet throughout New England!
