DESCRIPTION:
Marlene, vocalist, songwriter and pianist, leads The Marlene Jazz Ensemble -- a veteran musician who has performed for various audiences in the U.S. and abroad including Philippines’ ex-Presidents Fidel Ramos and Cory Ramos and Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand. The Marlene Jazz Ensemble (also available as an instrumental group) has a varied repertoire ranging from elegant jazz (Ella Fitzgerald, Sinatra, Porter, Bill Evans, Parker) to more upbeat rhythm and blues (r&b) and Latin tunes (Jobim, Sergio Mendes). Recently back from Peru concerts and tv appearances, Marlene and her ensembles also perform regularly on the Odyssey lunch cruises, Piers Park Concert series, The Marriot Longwharf and Wentworth by the Sea Hotels, and other venues. Her ensemble performed at the 2005 and 2006 Boston Arts Festivals, the famed Ryles Club for the UN-sponsored benefit to remove landmines in Mozambique, the recent Worcester First Night and Boston tv's "Fernando's Hideaway". She was recently the first guest interviewee in the new headquarters of WGBH Boston's Jazz Gallery with host, Al Davis, where her CD, "Crying Days" enjoys airplay. Her ensemble just opened for legendary Cuban pianist, Omar Sosa at the Philippine International festival this year. Her second CD with Blue Earth Music has just been released and features New England’s best, including Greg Hopkins (trumpet), Dave Landoni (bass), Brooke Soffermann (drums) and Patrick Mottaz (guitar). Marlene and her ensembles are available in solo to 6-piece ensemble formats.
