DESCRIPTION:
Hi! I'm Ed Wise and I moved to Philly from New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. My band is an 8-piece ensemble featuring 2 trumpets, a clarinetist/saxophonist and a trombone in the horn section and piano, string bass (that's me), guitar and drums in the rhythm section, and my vocals. We play New Orleans-style traditional jazz (also known as "dixieland") and swing-era-style big band dance music. If you like ballroom or swing dancing, you will love our groove and tempos. If you are interested in the early history of jazz, then we are the band for your concert series. Also, the size of the band can be adjusted to best serve your entertainment needs. From a duo to the full 8-piece group, we are able to provide the music you want for your occasion.I spent 12 years in New Orleans, absorbing the music and culture and becoming knowledgeable about the origins of American jazz and the music from the 1890's through the end of WWII. I promise you will love our sound and our presentation, whether for dancing or for listening. I am also available for lecturing on the origins and early history of jazz in America.
