DESCRIPTION:
Pure Steel is a high energy steel drum band that specializes in live performance for all occasions. Musical styles include Reggae, Calypso, Soca, Latin, Jazz, Rock, Classic Rock and original compositions in all styles. The band was formed in the fall of 1996 with its three core members Andy Cobbs, Christian Beana and Ted Goslin. All three members met while performing with the North High School #10 Tin Can Band where they also learned to play and perform on steel drums. The band has performed had hundreds of events across Southern California including the Long Beach Convention Center, Long Beach Aquarium, San Onofre State Beach, Redondo Beach, Long Beach and San Pedro Yacht clubs respectively as well as hundreds of weddings and parties. The band has also performed several times for Los Angeles District attorney Steve Cooley. Andy Cobbs has been playing steel drums and drum set for over 11 years and has been studying music for over 15 years. He has performed with many different local music acts such as Soca Motion and the Cal State Long Beach Steel Drum Orchestra and took part in the Massive band concerts in 2000 and 2002 which consisted of over 80 steel drum players from all over California and culminated at the Carpenter Center at Cal State Long Beach. He is currently the band leader and arranger for the Rusty Steel steel drum band and has performed all over Southern California with them as well. Christian Beana has been playing music, specifically the steel drums, for over 12 years, starting at the age of 11 when he was in the sixth grade. Beana has performed with many musical groups over that time including the #10 Tin Can Band, in which he won the Sammy Saxon Award for outstanding achievement in music, Soca Motion steel drum band and performed many solo gigs at many famous California locations such as Gladstones restaurant in Malibu, Universal Studios and many Yacht Clubs throughout the South Bay. Beana is also hard at work as a solo artist (singer/songwriter) and has performed live at such clubs as B.B. Kings, The Whiskey A-Go-Go, and the Roxy. He is the current director of the #10 Tin Can Band. Ted Goslin began playing the steel drums in high school when joining the #10 Tin Can Band. Soon after he was invited to join the Panic All-Stars steel drum band led by world renowned jazz drummer and composer Chris Wabich. Goslin has performed all across Southern California, nationally and internationally with Panic and Pure Steel. In addition he has played solo gigs in Laguna Beach, Palos Verdes and locally throughout the South Bay. He is a former director of the #10 Tin Can Band as well.
