DESCRIPTION:
Jamie Davis holds a position amongst the pantheon of great male vocalists with a full deep baritone voice that has been paired with some of the world’s most famous talent. Davis counts Patty Austin, Tony Bennett, George Benson, The Count Basie Orchestra, Rosemary Clooney, Jimmy Cobb, and Billy Cobham, Wycliffe Gordon, Plaz Johnson, Jimmy Heath and John Handy as some of the premier performers with whom he has shared the stage.
Davis was named the "chocolate baritone" by Sir Michael Parkinson, the BBC’s arbiter of important international Jazz, after his 2007 performance in London with the BBC’s sixty-four piece orchestra. Last year’s schedule included the Cheltenham Festival, the Jerry Lewis Telethon in Las Vegas and tours at home and abroad. Davis also performs regularly for both public and private events in United States and Europe. During his career, Davis has traveled and performed extensively around
the world as a headliner and as the lead vocalist for the Count Basie Orchestra. His full rich, deep baritone voice was tapped to narrate ‘A Time to Remember,’ a docudrama which won the Black American Independent Filmmakers Award. In 1999 in recognition of his steady accomplishments in the San Francisco area jazz scene, Davis was invited to be a part of the prestigious ‘Bay Area’s Giants of Jazz’ photograph, a event inspired by the acclaimed, historical ‘A Great Day in Harlem’ photo of 1952. Davis’ solo CDs include It’s All About Love and It’s A Good Thing, his first on the Unity Music label. A critically acclaimed second recording in front of a big band made up of members of the Count Basie organization and some of Los Angeles’ finest instrumentalists, It’s a Good Thing was album of the week on digital radio station, TheJazz in December 2007 and is currently on the in-flight audio play lists of British Airways, Scandinavian, Aer Lingus and British Midland. A new CD, Vibe Over Perfection, will be released in 2008. There are just too many songs to include in my list below that I enjoy performing but I will try to include your requests.
