His musical journey began with intensive study under Mary Sauer, former pianist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and jazz educator Alan Swain. Brendan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, receiving a Downbeat Magazine Award for composition and graduating with honors. Brendan embarked on a dynamic post-education career in Los Angeles, where he delved into the world of film scoring through a transformative internship at Hans Zimmer's studio. Additionally he worked as a collaborative pianist at the Walt Disney Company. He performed with renowned jazz musicians like Gordon Goodwin, Peter Erskine, John Clayton, and Brian Culbertson. This journey led him to Brazil, where a year as a Fulbright Scholar fueled his research into South American music. Returning to the United States, Brendan continues to expand his musical vision through performance, education, composition, and production. He currently serves as the full-time choir and musical theater pianist at New Trier High School, and he has accompanied The Uniting Voices (formerly the Chicago Children’s Choir). With notable international and national performances at venues like the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center, Brendan remains committed to his artistic path through honest creativity and contributions to his musical community.
