DESCRIPTION:
Anders Vercelli is a Boston-based jazz pianist specializing in wonderful jazz standards written by the masters of American Popular Song. His repertoire is charming array of songs from the Great American Songbook by such luminous composers as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Richard Rodgers. Such songs were sung and made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Tony Bennett, and Nat King Cole. For a more modern comparison, think of an instrumental version of Harry Connick or Michael Feinstein for fabulous background music. Whatever the occasion, Anders promises musical energy to make your event magical. Anders has complimentary demo CDs available upon request. In case an acoustic piano is not available on site, Anders travels with a portable keyboard, a Roland FP-5, which features 88-weighted piano keys and has the sound of a real acoustic piano. Anders also brings a sound system with him, giving the keyboard a rich, full quality sound. Anders is a 2005 graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied piano with Bob Winter, principal pianist for the Boston Pops Orchestra since 1980. Anders grew up on Block Island during the summer and got a steady gig playing piano at the movie theater in town when he was 16 years old, performing nightly at the grand piano on stage prior to the start of the movies. His tunes would draw audiences in early and summers later, people came back to the theater asking if Anders was still there playing piano. One night, a couple saw him perform and asked Anders if he would play piano at their wedding reception that summer at the Spring House on Block Island. Now 27, Anders performs about 100 special events per year in Boston and throughout New England, both as a soloist and with his jazz trio.
