DESCRIPTION:
While I have my Rick Sherman Band, a 6-piece group which plays a wide variety of music for dining, dancing, and listening, including rock, pop, jazz, R & B, blues, Motown, etc., I am frequently hired as a one-man-band. I sing, and utilize 2 keyboards and 2 drum machines to get a full band sound by myself. However, I do NOT use pre-recorded backing tracks of any kind (audio, midi, computer files, etc.). I believe that when clients want live music, they do not want a DJ or Karaoke, they want LIVE music. I provide live music by playing left-hand bass, right-hand chording and soloing, and controlling 2 drum machines with 4 foot pedals. I have a huge, varied repertoire, including Billy Joel, Elton John, James Brown, Frank Sinatra, The Doors, Jimmy Buffet, Neil Diamond, The Beatles, The Eagles, Garth Brooks, and on and on. I am able to provide light jazz music for cocktail hour and dining, and then kick into high gear for entertaining dance music. I enjoy performing, and I get the crowd involved with my music, energy and humor. I am a veteran professional musician, and I have been doing this for decades. I started playing at The Village Inn on Balboa Island back in 1978, and still perform there today. I also perform regularly every Saturday night at The Villa Nova Restaurant in Newport Beach (since May of 2005). I provide live entertainment for numerous annual Balboa Island community events, and have been providing music for the Orange County Business Journal Award dinners and luncheons for over 6 years. Along with my one-man-band format, I can also add a sax/flute man for the Rick Sherman Duo, and add a drummer to that for the Rick Sherman Trio, and expand up to my 6-piece band, which includes myself, 2 sax men, guitarist, drummer, and female vocalist.
