Winston Churchill used language to rouse the fighting spirit. If you’re going through hell, keep going! Never never give up! I am Derek Meyer Galanis. I was born into a notorious organized crime family. documented by the Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Gambino Crime family associate. I have served two prison sentences. While serving my second sentence it was then that I began to realize that I could use my adversities to reclaim my life, rise above my circumstances and live my triumph. I authored and published two books. Became self-taught to read write and speak Spanish fluently. I was a member of the group “Those Outspoken” who spoke with youth to inspire them about the importance of making smart life decisions, in addition to becoming an accomplished competent communicator with Toastmasters International. My lifelong passion and pursuit of martial arts became the motivation for writing my second book “Warrior of the Light” and the catalyst for my own personal journey to connecting with God. Since my release, I have continued on my path of redemption. I am married to a loving supportive wife and together we have become a family and created a place to call home, where love and respect are the cornerstone, not greed and fear the power that held my criminal family together and the inspiration for the title of my first book "Greed and Fear The Galanis Crime Family". I have earned my yellow, green, and black belt certificates in the Lean Six Sigma Certification Program. I pursued my desire to work in the field of mixed martial arts to share with others the empowering benefits of the arts that compile MMA. I also earned my Master in Business Administration since I was released from prison. I have had the privilege to share my journey with youth groups, community groups, and leadership of organizations, and as a guest speaker on many podcasts and other public platforms. My humble sincere desire is to inspire others that no matter your circumstances, limited resources/and or opportunities, stumbling, or roadblocks you can live your triumph. We all have the ability to tap into our own personal transformative powers and rouse our fighting spirits to never give up and be the creator of our own personal masterpieces!
