DESCRIPTION:
Michael and Jennifer McLain feature pure, soulful harmony and inspired instrumentals presented with genuine warmth onstage. Their music draws from bluegrass, gospel, irish, blues, and original acoustic music. Together and with the McLain's, Michael & Jennifer have performed together in 27 states from New York to California as well as Canada's Prince Edward Island, for arts councils, community concert series, churches, schools, festivals, and corporate events. They have appeared on TNN's "Crook & Chase", Kentucky Educational Television, Iowa Public Television's "Old Time Country Music" series, the Grand Ole Opry, and as part of the West Point Military Academy Arts Series. For 12 years, MICHAEL K. MCLAIN performed with his family, the McLain Family Band in 49 states and overseas, including appearances at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum, the Lincoln Center, Chicago's Orchestra Hall, and the Grand Ole Opry. In 1994 he joined Claire Lynch & The Front Porch String Band and was featured in their 1996 CMT video "My Heart Is A Diamond", on the group's 1997 Grammy nominated recording Silver and Gold (Rounder Records), as well as numerous appearances on TNN's Prime Time Country and the Grand Ole Opry Live. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commercial Music degree from Belmont University (Nashville, TN) where he now teaches guitar, banjo, mandolin and directs a bluegrass music ensemble. JENNIFER BANKS MCLAIN grew up in a musical family band from Hillsville, VA. Known as Reva Banks and the Country Folk, her family performed at Radford University, The Carter Family Homeplace, the Andy Griffin Playhouse and many other venues throughout VA and NC. She was later a featured performer at the Busch Gardens Theme Park (Williamsburg, VA). Jennifer graduated from Elon College (Elon College, NC) with a BA in Music Performance. Regarding Michael's guitar playing, Bluegrass Now Magazine says, "smoldering guitar leads", while "Jennifer's voice is sweet and pure, even angelic." Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine asserts "Jennifer absolutely shines" and "gorgeous guitar work by Michael."
