DESCRIPTION:
Brad Lewis was born in Canada, he was raised with a mix of country, rock n’roll, and blues all around the house, the sounds of Hank Snow, Elvis Presley, and Jerry Lee Lewis that were his mother’s favorites, were the daily backdrop in the cold eastern city of Toronto. They relocated to southeast Los Angeles where, hillbilly and soul music blended with the sounds of the AM radio he got from his paper route. Wanting a guitar since the age of 5 was a memory he always cites, he didn’t start formal lessons until the age of 13. By high school he was playing parties and by 25 he started his first “club gig”. Traveling back and forth to Toronto, Canada from Los Angeles, gave him a perspective altogether different. Mandolin in bluegrass jam bands and bass in reggae bands in Toronto/ rock ‘n roll and soul music in L.A. By the mid-eighties he started his first country/rock group "Cheyenne". This group played 3-5 nights a week from the mid-eighties until the early nineties, winning Group of The Year, and Brad Male Vocalist of the year from the California Country Music Association/Golden West Chapter. Presented at the legendary Foothill Club in Long Beach. During these fruitful years Brad began to work with Will Ray, guitar god, and founding member of the Hellecasters. Brad played banjo, mandolin, and acoustic guitar on several sessions Will produced including three compilation albums, Hollywood Roundup, Detour West and Far West. Also appearing at Ronnie Mack’s Barndance as the Gila Monsters at the famed Palamino Club.. Taking over honky tonk duties in ‘89 from Dale Watson at The Blue Bayou in Bellflower, “Lazy” Brad was playing 5 nights a week when he decided to go back to school to get a degree in music. This would prove to be a turning point in many ways. While attending music classes, Brad met up with several musicians that would have a profound effect on the coming years. First his meeting with the young harmonica player Tom Richmond. His influence in blues and jazz was immediate. Together they formed “The Soulcasters” and performed regularly at the Sunset Pub and Phil Trani’s Restaurant playing a mix of jazz and blues backing George Griffin for a short while. The next influential meeting was in a talent show at the college where chromatic harmonica legend Bill Barrett was performing with Katy Sojak. Bill needed a side man for one of his duos, and they began to perform regularly as Barrett & Lewis putting out one release on the Woe Tone Records label. This duo soon blossomed into The Wild Blue Weasels featuring the great talents of Vince Meghrouni on sax and vocals and Mike “Soupy” Sessa on drums. This in turn evolved into Brother Weasel, a wacked out jazz/punk/blues fusion group that put out 3 releases on Greg Ghin’s SST label including the well recieved “Swingin’ and Grovin’”l. Brad was also founding member of The Sherpas, along with Vince Meghrouni until 2004. 2007 was the year “Lazy” Brad Lewis released his first solo CD, “All My Friends Are Bartenders”. Brad decided to do a few shows for the American Cancer Society and try out some of the new material. Although things began to click the year got off to a slow start for the band which now included Tom Blair on drums and Tom Richmond on harmonica. Jason Wilkins provided the missing link in his bass guitar in 2008 and the band has been non-stop since. Recording a “live” in studio CD in January. They have been performing four nights a week most of the year, mostly in Southern California but also short tours in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Northern California. With a CD of new tunes due out by the end of the year and several great shows left to do the Lazy Brad Lewis band should be roaring full force into 2009 and beyond!

The Lazy Brad Lewis Band was the right choice for our Harvest Festival. They were punctual, professional and very entertaining. We are an Assisted Living Community part of a 280+ chain of communities, the second largest in the world for Assisted Living. We have to be very particular when hiring entertainment for our senior residents (average age of 84 years young). We plan a large event monthly and plan on asking The Lazy Brad Lewis Band to return in the very near future!

Absolutely wonderful! We hired him for an event we planned, and the crowd loved him. They took requests from the group, and got everyone dancing. Very easy to work with and so accommodating. Not sure how much need I will have for country music in the future, but would highly recommend to anyone.
