Blue Plate Special has played in the Chicago Blues scene since 1969. Our Band of three veteran blues musicians achieves a unique well rehearsed sound and tightness to our show that acts comprised of hired sideman cannot match!. Our performance is true to the Blues, unlike others who combine too many genres and just dip into a blues sound !

Blue Plate Special presents a musically and visually exciting, well crafted performance ! Typically each concert is a combination of our radio proven original songs and classic Blues Genre cover songs. Some of the artists we currently cover are: Ray Charles, Muddy Waters, Dr. John, Keb Mo, Thunderbirds, ZZ Top.

__________________________________________________________________ Formed in 1969 by blues singer/songwriter R.P. Michaels, Blue Plate Special was there at The Cellar in Arlington Heights, Illinois in '69-'72 opening for Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon's Chicago Blues Allstars, Zephyr w/Tommy Bolin on guitar and The Bob Seger System. They were among the artists that played at the Otis Spann Memorial Benefit where Willie Dixon and Buddy Guy introduced the Blues community to Koko Taylor singing Wang Dang Doodle. They were one of the first bands to lead the famous Blue Monday Jam session at Chicago's Kingston Mines (with Studebaker John on the harp). Blue Plate was the house band for two years at John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd's Blues Brothers Bar on Wells Street. They have entertained at the Chicago Bears Fan Convention and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Convention, Sears Corporate shows, Midnight Madness Marathon Races 2008, Be-All Midwest Convention 2009 and Associated Mail and Parcel Carriers Convention 2009. ____________________________________________________________________ In 2009 Blue Plate Special has Headlined at: Beloit Folk and Blues Festival, West Chicago Oktoberfest, Chicago Bluesfest, Michigan Brewfest, Jake Melnicks Mardi Gras Celebration, Iowa Midnight Madness Races 2009, Chicago Blues Tour 2009! Over the years, Blue Plate Special has shared the concert stage with Charlie Musselwhite, Paul Butterfield, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Siegal-Schwall Blues Band, Heartsfield, Leon Russell, Edgar Winter, Lonnie Brooks, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials, Mitch Ryder, The Kinsey Report, Larry McCray and Wayne Baker Brooks, Janiva Magness.

• Blue Plate Special is very professional in all aspects. Their performance was excellent and very fluid. Most bands in their price range seem to sound somewhat mechanical. Not BPS, the music seemed to flow effortlessly. You can't go wrong with these artists! My only regrets are, that I didn't get more people to the event to enjoy their music and that I didn't hire them for a longer performance. • It was a great night with the temperatures and the crowd. I believe we had over 2000 at the party and it just seemed like a blues night. Blue Plate Special was as perfect as you could get for the event that was held outside in downtown Ames. I know no one is perfect and that is why I rated Blue Plate 4.5 in all categories. I do appreciate very much what they did for us and the atmosphere that was created. I would definitely invite them back.
