Orquesta Mambo Con Swing was born in March 2011 when Diego Motta, a trombonist and medical student from New Jersey partnered with Pedro "Peewee" Zayas to make their idea a reality. Over the years, the two musicians have played together in the Latin music scene, but it wasn't until 2011 where they decided to form their own group. Collectively, they each bring years of playing and managerial experience to the table. The one thing that Diego Motta wanted in the group was to have a stable group of musicians who weren't "playing with every other local band in the area." This was no easy task and in fact took two separate attempts over the course of several months at recruiting a reliable cast of band members to finally find the right mix of musicians and personalities. The saying always goes that it doesn't matter how talented an individual musician or athlete is , if they cant fit into a system and work together as a group, the team or band will not go very far. With this concept in mind, it was essential to recruit not just great musicians but great people as well.
Realizing the obstacles that would be faced, Diego Motta was patient in recruiting and carefully selecting his band members, also acquiring the help of his twin brother, and fellow musician, Luis Motta, on trumpet. Through trial and error, the band was finally formed and as expected, the group produced an upbeat and energetic sound at the very first rehearsal with Franklin Corrales, of Colombia as their new singer.
Diego Motta, the leader of Mambo Con Swing brings both managerial and playing experience to the group and is serving as the band leader, manager, co-promoter musical director and arranger for the group. "Peewee" Zayas serves as the director of the percussion section and co-band leader. Additionally, Ricardo Motta, Diego Motta's father, DJ and long time salsa collectionist, will serve as the sound engineer for the group.
Each musician brings an extensive background of playing experience that include high profile artists including Aventura, Grupo Niche, Latin Brothers, El Gran Combo, Sonora Dinamita and several others which can be seen in each musicians individual bio.
Additionally, the musicians in Mambo Con Swing have played in just about every venue in NJ, PA and NY including well known clubs such as G&G Lounge and BB Kings in New York City and many others in New Jersey such as Crystals Lounge, Nova Terra, Cuba Libre, Mangos Lounge and several others. The musicians have also had the privelage of entertaining audiences across the east coast at private venues that include Princeton University, Rutgers University, Dartmouth College, Syracuse University, and New York University (NYU), to name a few.
Rest assured that while many of the musicians have careers aside from music, these musicians all have one thing in common; they share a strong passion for Latin music and will work hard at perfecting each song they perform and putting on a great sounding show for the crowd that will keep people dancing all night long! Look for great things in 2011 and beyond from Orquesta Mambo Con Swing as they plan to release their first original album in 2012.
Last but not least, Mambo Con Swing wants to give a special thanks to Melissa Peralta, designer and 3D artist for designing the band's logo.
