DESCRIPTION:
Joshua Walker is a versatile guitarist and composer performing in many different settings and groups, from solo to quartet and beyond. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, he has also pursued postgraduate studies with Gary Thomas, Greg Osby, Paul Bollenback and Michael Formanek at The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. During his time at the conservatory he was awarded the Charlie Byrd Endowment for Guitar. Joshua has performed at The Montreal International Jazz Festival in Canada; at The Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and at The Bob Marley One Love Festival, the Jazz By the Lake Festival and The Occasion for the Arts Festival in Virginia. Joshua has performed with pop star Jason Mraz; on the same concert bill as Charlie Byrd; and with Johnny Thunder of â€ËÅ"The Drifters’. Joshua has also played at many well-known jazz clubs as a leader and a sideman including Twins Jazz In Washington DC; Bogarts in Richmond, Virginia; and The Upstairs and O’ Patro Vys in Montreal, Canada.
Joshua is a member of The Jazz Composer’s Alliance in Richmond, Virginia, and has been a featured composer at several of their concerts. Joshua’s compositions have been featured three times on the jazz-guitar internet podcast entitled â€ËÅ"No Idle Frets’. Joshua’s first album, â€ËÅ"Inertia’, features his compositions performed by his working quartet of the last two years. Another of Joshua’s projects, the Joshua Walker Trio, also maintains an active performing schedule in the mid atlantic area. Joshua can also be heard every Sunday at The Glen Restaurant in Glen Allen, Virginia, in a duo with one of the area’s top bassists. Joshua also regularly performs with the Richmond based group, Soul Army.
