DESCRIPTION:
The Soul Impressions are able to please every audience with their wide variety of material. Soul, rhythm & blues, funk, disco, and sophisticated jazz are all part of this supergroup's repertoire. The band is perfectly at ease in any performance setting, frequently playing a set or two of instrumental jazz for cocktail hour, followed by several hours of intense, high-energy funk and soul for the party proper. Such flexibility is simply without parallel in this region. As the Soul Impressions mantra goes, "Let's get this party started!" Lead vocalist/ frontman Terry King represents the heart and soul of the Soul Impressions. King puts 110% into each and every show, without exception. His stage presence and energy have been compared to that of James Brown, but with an even stronger connection to his audiences. By the middle of the set, King is typically performing in a pool of sweat, stretching his voice to its dynamic boundaries and masterfully directing the band to his every impulsive turn. The music comes straight from the heart, and there is no mistaking it. King's energy easily transfers to the crowd, and it literally draws people into his wonderful world of the pure, undiluted party. It should come as no surprise that Terry King is such a natural showman, though: His cousin is none other than blues legend B.B. King. In addition to good genes, Arkansas native Terry King also nurtured his gift in church choirs, which is quite evident in his style. The energy of Ray Charles combined with the talent of Otis Redding: That's Terry King, in a nutshell. The Soul Impressions' infectious groove is generated by its highly sought-after rhythm section. Bassist Andy Calder hails from Detroit, where he began playing professionally at age 16. He studied jazz at the University of Michigan, and his credits as a sideman are too numerous to list. Calder lives by the Motown bass creed: "If it don't groove, it's not worth playing!" Guitarist Jeff Eidemiller has been a professional musician in Jackson Hole for over 10 years. His background as a "hired gun" for many local and regional bands makes him the most versatile lead player in the area. Eidemiller's incredible technical abilities have earned him a reputation throughout the Western region. Rounding out the Soul Impressions lineup are drummer Andy Peterson and keyboardist Mark Longfield. Peterson has enjoyed a decade-long tenure as the valley's premier drummer/vocalist, performing and recording with dozens of bands from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles. Longfield, who grew up in New Jersey, joined the band in the summer of 2004. Longfield's strong attachment to the music of the Soul Impressions is uncompromising. He even insists on using his vintage Fender Rhodes piano and Hammond organ at every show, in spite of the instruments' unwieldiness. Longfield simply will not settle for a second-rate sound.
