Description
The National Italian newspaper "Il Tirreno", recently hailed tenor/countertenor Emiliano Loconsolo's "Sophisticated, elegant, delicate voice, almost fragile like Chet Baker, fascinating in his melodies and in his velvet swing." Labeled by the critics as "an authentic promise in Jazz Singing" he has collaborated with some of the best jazz artists in Europe including Stefano "Cocco" Cantini, Stefano Bollani, Paolino Dalla Porta, and Massimo Manzi. Emiliano has performed at the famous Capolinea club in Milan, the Lucca Jazz Festival in Tuscany, Break in Jazz in Milan, and the prestigious Umbria Jazz Winter Festival in Orvieto.
A native of Milan, Emiliano Loconsolo is taking a refreshing step away from the commercial market through a diverse and fascinating repertoire that includes American Songbook classics, 16th century Italian villanellas, baroque arias, and contemporary art songs. Mr. Loconsolo is trained in both jazz and classical voice and has cultivated a vocal technique that seamlessly blends tenor and countertenor registers and can approach work across multiple genres and periods. His hybrid sound is increasingly finding its place within new music, while he brings the expressive bel canto tradition into a jazz context.
Emiliano is one of the very few performers in the world today interpreting the poignant work of legendary folk singer Roberto Murolo, the undisputed master of the canzone popolare napoletana, son of the great 19th century poet Ernesto Murolo, and. In 2005 he collaborated with avant-garde jazz icon Irene Aebi on rarely heard and never before performed vocal compositions by her husband, soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy, and was a member of the American premiere of Futurities, a groundbreaking song cycle created by Mr. Lacy and renowned American poet Robert Creeley.
Mr. Loconsolo was a semi-finalist for the Italian National Award Premio Massimo Urbani in 2001, and recently a finalist in the 1st International Young Jazz Singers Competition in Brussels. In 2005 he was invited to perform at the Bali International Jazz Festival, and was the subject of two radio specials broadcast on Radio Palermo in Buenos Aires and Punto Radio Cascina from Pisa. His performances have been heard on WATD in United States, ABC Radio in Australia, and public radio in Russia.
Locally, Emiliano Loconsolo has performed in Boston at Scullers, the Harvard Faculty Club, the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Jordan Hall, and the Berklee Performance Center. He is a co-founder of Newpoli, a Boston-based Italian folk group. In Italy, Mr. Loconsolo was the founder of Cantinajazz, a very popular program for three years in Tuscany which explored the artistic relationship between jazz and wine through narration and performance.
Mr. Loconsolo emigrated to the United States in 2002 upon receiving Berklee College of Music?s international best talent scholarship and received a BA in Jazz Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. He currently resides in Rhode Island.

Feedback
- I hesitate to give my honest opinion out of fear that once the rest of the world discovers Emiliano Loconsolo, I will never be able to hire him again. Emiliano and his accompanying musicians were outstanding. The mix of Italian classics with jazz was perfect for our event. Emiliano's style and originality breathed new life into Neapolitan folk classics. I strongly recommend Emiliano to anyone who is planning an Italian event or simply if you want to hear a young singer before he becomes a STAR. I'm not kidding...watch out Andrea Bocelli! I would be happy to provide additional information regarding this reference and can be reached at: marinellolaw@aol.com -- Christopher M, East Meadow, NY, 10/3/2009
- Emiliano performed for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. He was perfect in his dual role as a Jazz Tenor, and Italian singer! We hired his Trio to sing mostly Italian songs. He was everything that I read about and expected- a sophisticated, professional vocalist who was a great choice for an elegant dinner affair. He was very personable, and helpful in trying to customize the music for my parents. He even spent time prior to his performance, speaking in Italian with my family. That went over great! If your looking for a refreshing young jazz vocalist who won't turn up the volume and turn off your guests, he's the man! Thanks Emiliano- Bravo! John F. - Emiliano made our event more special. Very nice singer and very professional. -- Yasmin P, Port Chester, NY, 9/8/2007
- Emiliano performed at my parents 50th anniversary party. From the beginning planning stage, he was already very friendly, helpful & professional. Wanting everything to be perfect, I had many questions & Emiliano was always eager to answer them. He made an extra effort to find sheet music for requested songs that were a little obscure.
At the actual party, his perforamnce lent a certain ambience fitting to the special occasion we were celebrating. He is extremely talented & has a wonderful stage presence. He even welcomed my parents as they ventured to sing along with him on certain songs.
Everyone at the party complimented him & several people even requested booking information. I myself asked him about any upcoming concerts; because of taking pictures & speaking to family members I hadn't seen in a while, I wasn't able to savor his performance as much as I would have liked too.
I would definitely hire him again & highly recommend him to others.
Thank you Emiliano!!! -- Lisa S, Jersey City, NJ, 7/8/2007
- Emiliano was absolutely amazing! He was even better live than on his samples! He has a wonderful personality, is extremely professional, and went above and beyond to accomodate our special song requests. His singing and choice of songs made the celebration even more special. Everyone at the party commented on how wonderful he was. He was perfect in every way and I will highly recommend him. We look forward to watching our video tape of the party just to hear him sing again! He is an A+ performer. I will definitely use him again for future functions I plan. -- Debbie Q, Watertown, MA, 3/10/2007
- Emiliano was a perfect person for our event. We had a dinner and wanted some music to be played through the dinner and we booked someone else who was unprofessional and canceled at the last minute. I did not get back to Emiliano until a week before the event and within two days the contract were signed and he was ready to come up. When he arrived we were in a tough situation with the space and Emiliano made it work. If you can make sure you get Emiliano if you need an event with jazz or Italian music. -- Aifuwa E, Middlebury, VT, 2/16/2007
- Emiliano made my event very special.
He has an understanding and passion for his music, that clearly
came accross in his performance.
The performance dazzled my guests and impressed me. -- Suzanne D, Hooksett, NH, 8/11/2007
- I have to say that myself and our guests were extremely complimentary of Emiliano's music. His voice was amazing. His grasp of the music he was singing was right on. I really can't say enought about his performance the night of the party. The accordian player, Corey, also played his heart out that night and never missed a beat.
They both kept the party engaged in their music and even allowed my father-in-law; a long time jazz lover and trumpet player to have the microphone a couple of times. Really it was a great time had by all. Thank you and I hope to have the honor of hearing you again.
