INTRODUCTION “Sail Away” is an innovative band that performs entertaining, exciting and accessible instrumental jazz, focusing on the contemporary popular American songbook, with special emphasis on pieces from the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980s – although “Sail Away’s” vast repertoire encompasses music from all eras and styles, past and present. The leaders of the group, tenor saxophonist Steven Golub and pianist and musical director Frank Barbera, are both New York area studio players who are committed to playing quality instrumental music. ***The music of "Sail Away" is perfect for corporate events, weddings and engagement parties, cocktail parties, hotel lounges, private house parties, restaurants, art gallery exhibitions and countless other settings.*** “Sail Away” primarily presents its music as a sax and piano duo, but that core group can also be expanded to a trio, with the addition of a bass, and a quartet, with the addition of a bass and drums. "Sail Away" has a professional PA system with JBL EON 710 speakers and a Yamaha MG 10XU mixer, along with microphones and stands, that it will provide as part of a performance at no additional cost, which is suitable for both large and small performance venues. "Sail Away" travels with an electronic keyboard but is also able to utilize an acoustic piano is one is available in the performance space. OUR MUSIC “Sail Away" offers either a “Standard Program,” that offers a selection of music, drawn from multiple genres and eras, or a series of Specialized Programs, that are concentrated on the music of one or more musically compatible genres. Client's are free to choose a the program that best meets their requirements: "Sail Away" - Standard Program (featuring an eclectic variety of music spanning from the 60'-80's featuring Pop, Rock, Soul, R&B, Jazz, Movie and TV Themes, Holiday and Party Songs etc.) "Sail Away" - Soul/Motown/R&B Program (featuring the music of Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Barry White, Al Green, Roberta Flack, Sade, Michael Jackson etc.) "Sail Away" - 70's/80's Pop/Rock Program (featuring the music of The Carpenters, James Taylor, Billy Joel, The Eagles, Hall and Oates, Olivia Newton John, Doobie Brothers, Elton John, George Michael, Christopher Cross etc.) "Sail Away" - 50's/60's Pop/Rock Program (featuring the music of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Frankie Vali, Tom Jones, Sammy Davis Jr., The Beatles etc.) "Sail Away" – Classic Jazz Program (featuring standards and classics from Stan Getz, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock etc.) Regardless of the era or genre, all of the songs that form a part of the “Sail Away” repertoire are outstanding pieces that are beloved by audiences of all ages are interpreted by “Sail Away” in a fresh manner that can be readily appreciated by the general listening audience as well as sophisticated jazz audience. Copies of the complete “Sail Away” Standard Program song list, as well as the various “Sail Away” Specialized Program song lists, can be provided upon request. MUSICIANS The following are the "Sail Away's" core musicians: STEVEN GOLUB – TENOR SAXOPHONE Saxophonist Steve Golub brings an exciting and innovative sound that captures the rich history of the instrument. Steve mixes a variety of styles and genres in his playing, including jazz, blues, R&B, pop, rock, reggae and funk, in a unique manner. His virtuosity on the tenor saxophone is manifested through a five-octave range, and ability to play in all styles and tempos. Steve has performed with leading jazz, blues, rock and R&B groups at many well-knownNew York City clubs including Paris Blues, Minton’s, Club Bona Fide, Smoke, Zinc Bar, Showmans, Sugar Bar, the Bitter End, CBGB’s, Iridium, B.B. Kings, Terra Blues, Manny’s Car Wash, Chicago Blues, Wetlands, The Village Gate, Blue Note, Arthur’s Tavern and others. Steve Golub is a talented composer and has written many jazz pieces. The legendary Samuel Hargress Jr., owner of the Paris Blues Club, said that Steven Golub was the "Best Sax Player in New York." FRANK BARBERA – PIANO Frank Barbera, pianist and musical director of "Sail Away," is a multifaceted artist known for his exceptional skills as an instrumentalist, composer, and arranger. With a distinctive sound and innovative approach to the piano, Frank draws inspiration from a wide range of musical influences, including legendary figures such as Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans and , Pat Metheny. Frank is a prolific composer, having written many jazz compositions. Frank was a founding member of the progressive original jazz group, "Uncharted Territory," where he performed alongside Steve Golub for several years. Their artistic chemistry and collective vision culminated in the creation of their studio album, "Tenor Centric Universe," where Frank’s remarkable piano skills are prominently featured.
