Jake Dester is an exceptionally versatile artist who manages and directs bands of all different shapes and sizes from two to 13 pieces. With advanced music transcription and arranging skills, he has created an impressive and growing repertorial stockpile made up of songs from assorted time periods and styles. In addition to playing the standard jazz classics, having earned a Jazz Studies degree from the world-renowned University of North Texas in 2012, Dester has musically explored a multitude of pop songs from the 1960s to today allowing him to bend the boundaries of genre and accommodate audiences of all different ages and backgrounds. Dester has been an active jazz artist since 2000 when he started playing clarinet in his middle school jazz band, has been freelancing since 2005, and cut his teeth gigging with swing bands around his native Tulsa, OK. In 2006, he embarked on a journey of deep study, cultivating a habit of excellence and precision in performance, composition, transcription, and arranging at the highly acclaimed University of North Texas College of Music where he earned a BM degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance in December of 2012.
