Description

Portrait In Jazz:

In some form, Portrait In Jazz has been together since 1993 when Ellenberg was working on his Master's Degree in Jazz Composition at New England Conservatory. The group began as a trio of guitar, bass and trumpet and grew from there. As the gigs required, saxophone, drums and vocals were added to fill out the sound. This group has performed hundreds of gigs over the years and continues to perform throughout New England at private and corporate events as well as publically at various clubs and restaurants. The flexibility in instrumentation allows this group to play everything from smaller, more intimate functions where ambience is essential to high-energy dance related events as weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and Corporate functions. Though the primary focus of Portrait In Jazz is performing jazz standards, we easily and comfortably cover many Motown and rock classics for upbeat, extended dance sets.

The Brad Ellenberg Quintet:

This band was put together in 2008 and grew out of Portrait In Jazz. Though the members are largely the same, the focus of the band is on performing many of Ellenberg's original jazz compositions. Rendezvous, their first cd released in January of 2010, was the culmination of these initial efforts. This group is comprised of trumpet, saxophone, guitar, bass, and drums. Currently, the band continues to add new originals to their playlist as well as original arrangements of jazz standards. Performances by The Brad Ellenberg Quintet are more of a concert environment at clubs and public venues.

Feedback

  • We hired the Brad Ellenberg Trio to play for a birthday party with ~80 guests. Brad was a good listener in our pre-event discussions and understood very well what we were looking for: Engaging background music for a cocktail party. After arrival, the trio set up quickly, and delighted our guests with their engaging but unobtrusive, versatile style. I heard many positive comments from our guests, and we were very happy with our choice. -- Christian H, Cambridge, MA, 11/19/2011
