PK3 Jazz Trio
This jazz trio is based around great feel and interesting arrangements. The sound of the PK3 Jazz Trio is influenced by Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal and Thelonious Monk. PK3 Jazz Trio has extensive experience performing at jazz festivals, including the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and the Pender Harbour Jazz Festival. This professional jazz trio also performs at weddings, corporate functions, hotel lounges and restaurants in the Vancouver region and abroad. PK3 is a regular trio at the stylish jazz venue, O'Doul's Restaurant and Bar in Vancouver, as well as other upscale establishments in the Lower Mainland. The swinging sound of the PK3 Jazz Trio is a fine addition to any event.
Paul Miyai- Paul studied both jazz and classical piano at the University of Manitoba and Capilano University, and has performed extensively as a soloist as well as an accompanist. During his engagements on Cruise Ships, Paul performed behind such names as Regis Philban and various entertainers who perform regularly on The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Paul has performed at numerous jazz and classical festivals around Canada, has made several television appearances and travelled all over the world as a working musician.
Karlis Silins- Karlis has been a professional acoustic and electric bassist for over fifteen years, performing and recording throughout Canada. Based in Vancouver, B.C., Karlis earned a music degree in Jazz Performance from Capilano University. He has worked in diverse musical genres, including Traditional and Modern Jazz. Current projects Karlis is involved in include Gordon Grdina's Box Cutter (which recently collaborated with saxophonist Fredrik Ljungkvist of Sweden's Atomic), The Gentlemen of Leisure, The Aaron Hardie Quartet, and the PK3 Jazz Trio. Karlis has shared the stage and recording studio with a number of local and international artists, including Bruno Hubert, Laura Crema, Brad Turner, Bill Coon, Kate-Hammett Vaughn, Dee Daniels, Eastwind, Glyn MacDonald, The Jakob Trio, and Kyprios.
Kristian Braathen- Kristian has worked as a professional musician for more than fifteen years. He received a Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies from the Music Faculty at Capilano University in 2004, where he studied with local jazz drummers Dave Robbins and Blaine Wikjord. In 2005, Kristian studied with world renowned jazz drummer, Jeff Hamilton (drummer with Oscar Peterson, Diana Krall and many others.) During a hiatus from his studies at Capilano University, Kristian performed for several cruise line companies for two years. As well, Kristian toured extensively in Canada and the United States with the Russell Jackson Band (former bassist with BB King) from 2000 to 2003. While on tour, Kristian shared the stage with such names as renowned jazz saxophonist Donald Harrison (Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Terence Blanchard,) and Matt 'Guitar' Murphy (The Blues Brothers.) From 2004 to present, Kristian has been a member of several local bands and works in many freelancing situations including live performance and studio work. Now with jazz as his focus, Kristian is an in demand drummer on the Vancouver music scene.
