Author Heather Anderson is an articulate and charismatic speaker with a soul wise beyond her years. Born with osteogenesis imperfect, a genetic bone disorder, Heather is only 2'10" in height making her one of the smallest women in Canada. By telling her story, she encourages us to become more knowledgeable about the physical challenges of others and helps us teach our children about diversity. Heather has said "being different in any way from what society tells us we should be opens the door to ignorance," when we know better we do better. She says, "no matter what other people have said or done, I've always known that I'm perfect the way I am. We are all perfect the way we are, which is the way God intended for us to be. What we believe as children determines who we become as adults." When a child is nourished with that kind of knowledge it gives them the power within to move mountains. A Little More Than Perfect is Heather's inspiring true story of living with a disorder that touches every part of her life. The disease makes her bones incredibly fragile, and the slightest touch can sometimes cause a fracture. This led to numerous trips to the hospital, casts, and surgeries. Yet from an early age, Heather refused to let the disability stop her. She graduated high school, attended University, learned how to drive, and even started her own business. At the age of twenty-four, she moved into an apartment of her own and found the independence she so craved. Through the years, she continued to face her own unique challenges including discrimination and job loss, but she refused to capitulate to despair. Instead, she found the inner strength to overcome her setbacks and live life on her terms.
