Susan W. Haas, Harpist

Having just received the 2012 "Bride's Choice" award, Susan is available to play for weddings and special events throughout the Puget Sound. With over 25 years of professional experience, she is able to provide a seamless musical backdrop for your special day. Always adding to her repertoire, she plays classical, jazz and broadway standards and pop music from "oldies" to today's hits. With a free consultation, she will help you simplify the task of choosing music for the ceremony or reception. If there isn't printed music for a particular request, Susan can transcribe for the harp just for your occasion. Although her specialty is solo harp, she also collaborates with other musicians to create an ensemble or to accompany a vocalist of your choosing, introducing a cello-harp duo for 2012 bookings.

Originally from Texas, she studied with Julia Hermann Edwards (Southern Methodist University) and Gail Horne Barrington (The University of Texas, Austin). She has played professionally in Texas, North Carolina, Colorado and Washington, D.C. The bulk of her career has been in the Chicago area delighting audiences at venues such as The Drake Hotel, The McCormick Convention Center, and The Four Seasons. Now making the Pacific Northwest her home, she particularly enjoys the lovely evergreen venues around the Sound and in the Cascades. She is happy to play indoor or open air events wherever she can travel with her concert harp (or one of her two smaller harps, if you prefer), including ferries to neighboring ports and gondolas to the summit of Crystal Mountain.

• 5 stars. Susan was kind enough to play at our ceremony on very short notice. I asked Susan to select the pieces to play which she successfully choose from her long repertoire. Susan asked me some questions as to our musical taste and interwove a variety of classical to modern day music into a cohesive program. She chose that which I probably would have if I had time and was not grieving the loss of my husband. Many of the relatives and friends commented how beautifully Susan played and that her personality was as soft and warm as her music.
