(About Walt's Music)

Jazz Improvisation is at the core of shaping my approach to music. Finding and keeping the balance between business and music has led me to travel on several unexpected musical paths throughout my career as a self-employed, full-time professional musician since 1984. Acoustic or amplified, strolling or stationary, accompanied or unaccompanied performing a variety of musical styles instrumentally on guitar is my primary focus. Mandolin has become a welcome addition to many performances since October 2004. Singing a few songs is fun and a true delight when others sing-along. Many live and recorded performances incorporate sequences and loops which are computer generated audio and midi-based drum, percussion, acoustic upright bass, and sparse chordal accompaniment.

Since 1995 I have had two main objectives in embracing this modern technology.

1) Provide a professional, consistent, innovative, entertaining, small ensemble sound with minimal staging at a fair price to my customers and fans while maintaining a financially profitable business as a self-employed, full-time professional musician.

2) Use as an invaluable tool to communicate musical ideas and concepts to other musicians, composers, arrangers and producers.

A laptop computer with professional music software is utilized to shape my personalized ensemble sound. Many hours have been spent on all sequences and loops producing, editing, arranging, mixing down to an audio wave file then converting to an Mp3 audio file format and finally downloaded on a portable audio MP3 player which is incorporated in performances.

Sequences and Loops have been either created by myself using Band in a Box, Real Band, and Sonar music software or purchased online through Peter Solley Productions, Cyber Midi, Latino Sequences of Miami, Tran Tracks, DrumTrax and Smart Loops.

I consider it a privilege to be allowed the opportunity to support myself and my family as a self-employed full-time professional musician. To all my fans and customers that make it possible to work each day to bring my musical dreams into reality.

Thank You,

Walt Pitts

(Bio)

Born Walter Pitts on October 22, 1960 in Mesa, Arizona then moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 5. In 1968 the love of guitar began when Walt's parents bought him a guitar at Skaggs drug store and guitar lessons at Armstrong Music Studio in Albuquerque for his 8th birthday. At that point the passion for music and playing guitar was ignited! At the age of 15 Walt's family returned to Phoenix. While attending Chaparral then Saguaro High Schools an appreciation for musical performance was developed and nurtured. After graduating high school in 1979 he attended Mesa Community College. It was under the tutelage of the late Grant Wolf that he was introduced to a world of music that broadened his horizons. A workshop with Herb Ellis and Barney Kessel strengthened the desire for more musical exploration.

In 1983 Walt was led to California. As a student of Musicians Institute (G.I.T.) in Hollywood, California, a solid music performance foundation was formed. Studying under the likes of Joe Pass, Joe Diorio, Robben Ford, Ron Eschete and other great musicians only deepened the quest for musical excellence.

Walt returned to Phoenix in 1984 to marry and start a family. He attended Arizona State University where he studied and taught jazz guitar under Chuck Marohnic.

As a native Southwesterner, Walt has a deep appreciation of the blended styles of music the area offers. The various musical preferences of his audiences compliment his zeal for presenting the gamut of musical expression.

The decades of Walt's career have found him performing in a variety of venues from nightclubs to five star hotels and luxury cruise ships to name a few.
