Description
My work consists of about 75% weddings and 25% restaurants, parties, and corporate functions.
WEDDINGS
For weddings, I provide instrumental guitar ,and vocals if desired, for pre-ceremony, ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner/reception. On guitar, I play classical, semi-classical, traditional songs, Beatles tunes, etc; whatever kind of mix you prefer. (Please check my song list, especially the "wedding music" section. It's not complete, but it represents the types of music I usually play). My being both a guitarist and singer gives you flexibility if you need someone to play classical guitar, but also sing a particular special song for your ceremony. People also often decide to include some folk-style vocals in during the cocktail hour and dinner in order to provide some variety and transition toward a more relaxed, informal atmosphere.
The mix of music I provide always goes over well for dinner/reception, especially with the parent/grandparent/aunt/uncle segment of the family.
An option that some couples choose is to prepare mix CDs (or an ipod)for me to play through my PA during part of the dinner/ reception. This creates a nice change of pace, and since I can also provide a vocal mic for toasts and introductions, this offers the best of both worlds. You get live acoustic music, with some periods of more typical DJ programming, without the expense.
With sufficient lead time, I will gladly learn a particular special song for your wedding or party, so feel free to inquire.
I am an especially good fit if you are planning a slightly less formal, even folksy, wedding, perhaps outside.
If you have a specific vision, run it by me, and we'll see what we might do. My experience with a variety of venues (and probably my experience as a high school teacher) has made me adaptable and easy going during the confusion which often reigns on that special day.
RESTAURANTS, PARTIES, CORPORATE FUNCTIONS, ETC.
In a restaurant, corporate, or party setting, I perform traditional folk/blues/roots acoustic music accompanied by fingerstyle guitar.(Dylan, Paul Simon,James Taylor,Jonny Cash, etc).
I also cover a number of traditional blues in the style of Mississippi John Hurt or Robert Johnson and roots music ( think Doc Watson or Merle Travis). The song list is a good representation of the material I cover. Finally, depending on the venue, I mix in some of my roughly 50 originals, ranging from story songs to humorous songs, many with a New England flavor.
I provide my own sound up to 600 watts and can adapt to most situations. I make my primary living as a high school teacher, so I'm comfortable and adaptable on stage.
