DESCRIPTION:
Ruby Dee & the Snakehandlers are a high octane four-piece Americana Roots and Rockabilly combo. That covers NW alt country, Texas honky-tonk, Bakersfield twang, Memphis rockabilly, Western swing, Tex-Mex and good ol' fashioned rock 'n' roll! Skip the big hats, pyrotechnics and choreography; it's all honest, original music, influenced by band members' heroes like Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Los Lobos, Stray Cats, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn and more; and their individual experiences playing professionally for over 20 years. The band is fronted by vocalist/songwriter Ruby Dee accompanied by Jorge Harada on electric guitar, and a variety of backing musicians that we work with around the globe. Known for its high-energy shows, the band has made a name for itself across the Pacific Northwest, the Southeast and Southwest as a group that delivers and performs to capacity crowds in local clubs, rodeos and county fairs, as well as large festivals such as Folklife 2004-2007, Bumbershoot 2005, and the Yellowstone Festival in 2007. The band was voted Best Unsigned Band in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer People's Picks 2005 and Best Signed Band in 2006. Additionally, Ruby's song 'Cold Pines and Red Dirt' won runner up in Songwriter Magazine's 2007 songwriting competition, and the band was named Best Country Band with Vocals by the Los Angeles Music Awards in 2007. Demand for a five-song EP CD, FIVE FOR THE ROAD released in 2003, led to the band's new release, NORTH OF BAKERSFIELD, a full-length CD recorded with producer Conrad Uno under the Dionysus Records banner. Singles from the CD earn spins in the United States, Australia and Europe, with regular play on 70 stations nationwide, including NPR and Clear Channel affiliates. Two tunes from this CD charted on the European Americana charts in 2006 and 2007. Their new CD, MILES FROM HOME, is being released in late June, 2008. Pre-released songs are already stirring a buzz in the Americana scene worldwide with great pre-release reviews everywhere. "Ruby Dee and the Snakehandlers make a sweet honky-tonk country racket that's perfect for long road trips, lazy afternoons and jumpin' and jivin' at the corner bar," said "If you like Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Buck Owens, X or any combination thereof, you'll immediately recognize the band as kindred souls. If you don't like those great artists, guess what? You may end up dancing to The Snakehandlers anyway, despite yourself. The band's that good." Seattle Times, 2005 The following year, the same paper said "When this rock-solid Americana outfit won "Favorite local band or artist" last year, we believe may have underestimated the band a bit. Judging from the fervent anticipation that the band's Conrad Uno-produced debut album NORTH OF BAKERSFIELD is generating, Ruby Dee and the Snakehandlers may soon leap from the corner bar to the national stage." Seattle Times, 2006 You want roots music? With Ruby Dee And The Snakehandlers, you'll get genuine American music, roots, rockabilly and country. Wanna know more about the band?
