WHO IS MAMA PEAVY?

Mama Peavy is the onstage comedic character created by Mary R. Butler. Mama Peavy is a not-so called minister that started a church for single women only called The Tabernacle of Sorrow. The mission of the church is to get as many single women married off as soon as possible. Mama Peavy is on the prowl for a husband and frequently carries applications for a husband in her purse. She recently wrote a book called "Women, It's OK to Marry an Ugly Man."

Mama Peavy's act is very clean, honest, and down right funny! Mama Peavy is ideal for church events, women gatherings, co-ed gatherings, class reunions, and birthday parties. She has performed for as few as 10 people to hundreds of people. She is also available to EMCEE events and programs as the client's request. Commentary on Mama Peavy by Mary R. Butler--"I have a passion to make people laugh. I was raised in a family that had lots of joy and laughter was often heard in my home especially with twelve brothers and sisters. As I became an adult and had children, I instilled those same values in my family. I taught my children that it is OK to laugh and it is OK to have a good wholesome time. But I must admit, I, Mary R. Butler, am not very funny. Mama Peavy is the funny one. Mama Peavy is sort of like my alter ego. She does all the things and says all the things that I wish I had the courage to do and say. I am not shy but Mama Peavy is a lot more outgoing than me. I think people like Mama Peavy because she isn't afraid to speak her mind. She is bold, gutsy, and worldy. She is supposed to be a pastor but she isn't exactly following the straight and narrow. People will be pleasantly amused with Mama Peavy and her antics. And in the end, people will realize that there is healing through laughter."
