ANNE TORMELA, LYRIC COLORATURA Biography A native New Yorker, Ms. Tormela has been noted for her “ringing and strongly expressive voice with extraordinary vocal control.” (Leif Kramp,Critic/Lübecker Nachtrichten) and “negotiating the upper reaches (of her voice) with dazzling security” (David Syrus, Head of Music, Royal Opera House, Covent Garden). An accomplished concert recitalist and classically trained singer, Ms. Tormela has concertized and performed all over the world in Germany, Italy, France, Poland, Sweden, Israel and the United States. She is equally skilled in Pop, Broadway and Folk musical styles as well as Opera, Classical and Oratorio. Ms. Tormela made her New York debut recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. In Germany she made her concert debut at Thronsaal auf Schlo§ in Schwerin; Stidtstheater, Wohnstift Augustinum in Bad Neuenahr, and Kammermusiksaal der Stadthalle Mülheim in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Ms. Tormela has appeared as a guest soloist with the Lake Placid Sinfonietta Orchestra and toured the United States as a soloist with The New Sigmund Romberg Orchestra. From 2015 to 2018 Ms. Tormela was a guest soloist in Italy and Poland to great acclaim with the Civitanova Marche Orchestra, Bytomiu Opera house, The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, the Krakow Moorish Temple for the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, Sala Baldini in Rome, Italy and in 2018 with the Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana at Teatro La Nuova Fenice di Osimo. and was soprano soloist for the Sarasota Choral Society’s 2018 Messiah production. In March of 2020 she performed with Metropolitan Opera star Jason Stearns at the Manatee Performing Arts Center in Bradenton, Florida, in 2022 she performed at the Norris Center in Naples, FL. Most recently in 2024 she performed as a soloist with The Sarasota Pops Orchestra under the baton of Robyn Bell. She has won numerous grants, awards and scholarships from venues such as The Rockefeller Foundation, International Vocal Arts Institute the Metropolitan Opera Guild, and The Altamura/Caruso International Voice Competition. In addition to Opera, Ms. Tormela is an avid athlete, swimmer and 4th degree Black Belt in Taekwon Do and is Artistic Director of Manhattan Lyric Opera-POP!
