Description
Vanessa Naghdi is a classically trained soprano specializing in opera, classical, classical crossover, jazz, musical theatre, and opera trance. She has a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University. Vanessa is currently studying with mezzo-soprano Cynthia Donnell and voice coach Melanie K. Day. She is a soprano section leader and soloist at Boulevard United Methodist Church in Richmond, VA
Vanessa began performing from childhood on, and started taking private voice lessons at the tender age of 12 from Ms. Nicole Lamm. She is a natural when it comes to the stage, and her warm stage presence and angelic voice will make any event a special one. Vanessa sings in many languages including English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Latin, and Farsi.
In the Summer of 2011, Vanessa studied opera and Lieder (German art song) in Freiberg, Germany, where she performed in multiple operas, including Suor Angelica and Die Jungfrau von Orléans. She sang in many recitals while working with Eckhart Sellheim and took voice lessons from Anne Kopta. She performed under conductor Jan Horstmann of the Mittelsächsisches Theater with the Mittelsächsische Philharmonie, with all of this under artistic director Dorothy Maddison of James Madison University.
Vanessa has performed in many operas, galas of opera scenes, recitals, and concerts in Richmond and its surrounding area, as well as in Northern VA and Washington, D.C., including at the White House. She has won multiple competitions and received numerous honors, including grants and scholarships for her hard work from VCU's Department of Music, such as their Friends of Opera Scholarship and their Summer Studies Grant.
Vanessa is a dependable and trustworthy performer and person. She is hard-working and dedicated, and makes sure that the music provided for your event is spectacular. From weddings to funerals to restaurant and club entertainment, Vanessa can sing for any event that you might need that extra "spark" for. A true professional, she strives for excellence within music, and will make booking your special occasion a breeze. She has a wide variety of pieces available in her repertoire, knows many traditional wedding songs, and is glad to take any requests for events!
