THE MAGILLS play innovative Celtic & light classical music with power & grace, and ranging from the stately & exquisite to the driving & wildly beautiful. Instruments include wooden & silver flutes, guitar, vocals & cittern (10-string mandolin). Beth & Jim are both professionals with 25 years experience playing for weddings, receptions, corporate events, and more. We can provide our own compact, high-quality sound system when required, & are available as a duo or trio with Andrew Magill, on fiddle, guitar and low whistle when his schedule permits. BETH grew up studying Classical music, then discovered Celtic music after college, and now feels absolutely delighted she can do both, depending on the occasion. Currently, she plays mostly Celtic/light classical and contra dance music on wooden & silver flutes and tin whistles.
She is a recording session musician, having recorded several albums with singer/songwriter, Johnsmith, grammy award-winning songwriter Jon Vezner, hammered dulcimists Jerry Read Smith and Jim Taylor, and more. With a passionate, exuberant style, Beth was also a founding member of Asheville's ground-breaking Celtic band, Mooncoin. She served as the music director for Highland Repertory Theater's production, A Mislaid Heaven, and she currently plays with The Magills, Southwind, Jon Vezner, Fly By Night, and various other musicians.
When not playing weddings, background music for receptions and conferences or planning her next project, she teaches tin whistle to adults and children, offers workshops for parents in how to create more musical home environments for children, has written a children's book about (what else?) musical children, and leads bi-monthly community sings, also known as the “Sing Together” series, at Asheville's The Diana Wortham Theatre, with her husband/bandmate, Jim.
In addition to Asheville, The Magills will also travel to Edneyville, Enka, Skyland, Wilson, Flat Rock, Hendersonville, East Flat Rock, Gerton, Montreat, Naples, Saluda, Mountain Home, Ridgecrest, Bat Cave, Lake Lure, Mill Spring, Fletcher, Tryon, Dana, Chimney Rock, Fairview, Zirconia, Arden, Concord, Columbus, Chapel Hill, Etowah, Horse Shoe, Landrum, Tuxedo
and many other locations in and around the Asheville area.
