The Ivy Leaf is a young band with a lot of experience, and a history of bringing traditional Irish tunes and songs to a variety of venues all over New England. They love performing, both on-stage and for events, as well as educating and talking about the history of Irish music and their unique instruments with audiences of all ages. In addition to their public performances, they specialize in educational concerts and in providing music for weddings. They love working with couples to design a unique soundtrack to accompany their big day. Brides & grooms - ask about them about their wedding packages! The Ivy Leaf makes booking easy - they'll cover the Gigmasters booking fee, send you contracts, guide you through the musical selection process, and travel to wherever you need music.
A young stalwart of traditional Irish music in Boston, The Ivy Leaf features Caroline O'Shea (flute, whistle, vocals), Armand Aromin (fiddle, whistle), and Lindsay Straw (guitar, bouzouki, banjo, vocals). The members' diverse backgrounds in Berklee College of Music, All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil competitions, and the rich Irish culture of Boston combine to produce a sound that is “vibrant and sure-footed, and tailored to fully reveal each tune's character and personality” (Sean Smith, Boston Irish Reporter). Highly sought after to play for weddings and other private events, the Ivy Leaf has also been featured at prestigious local venues such as Club Passim in Cambridge, the Irish Ceilidh Club of Rhode Island, and the New England Folk Festival. The group also teaches for the Boston Reynolds-Hanafin-Cooley branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann music school, as well as private lessons in the area. Their first album, released in March of 2012, “features nimble playing and skilled arrangements that convey a great enthusiasm for traditional Irish music” (Dan Neely, Irish Echo).
As of February 2013, The Ivy Leaf is performing as a trio, and all quotes will reflect this. If you'd like a larger group for your concert or event, ask about adding uilleann piper, Joey Abarta, or Irish step and sean-nos dancer Jackie O'Riley!
PLEASE NOTE: Our song list does not include the vast, innumerable repertoire of Irish jigs, reels, hornpipes, polkas, etc. that we play - it'd be impossible to list them all! It does, however, include the vocal songs we perform, as well as a selection of slower waltzes, airs, and tunes that are appropriate for weddings and similar events.

"Future brides, I highly recommend the Ivy Leaf to play at your ceremony and confidently recommend them for other types of special events as well. They played during our wedding ceremony earlier this month in a Catholic church and the music was perfect -- very heartfelt and beautiful, it was just what I was hoping for. In addition, I found Lindsay, the point of contact for the band, very easy to work with and friendly, which is invaluable in the midst of wedding planning mayhem. She helped me find the best two songs for the procession and seemed as enthusiastic as I was for the Big Day! Thank you, all, you played a very special role on a very special day. -E"
