Description

Matt Wigler is a blues and jazz piano player. The band includes professional, touring musicians who have played with artists including Ray Charles, James Brown, Little Feat, and Spyro Gyra. Blues Source raves, "No matter if it's jazz, funk, or gut bucket ragtime, Wigler has a firm grasp on playing it right." "That teen can play boogie woogie keyboards like no one alive!" says Tony McFarlane of the Capital Blues Messenger. Matt infuses blues, jazz, boogie, funk, to create a style the Baltimore Sun describes as, "foot-tapping, head-swinging, blues jazz fusion music."

Matt has appeared on stage with musicians including Buckwheat Zyceco, Tommy Castro, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Bob Seeley Bobby Rush, Tab Benoit, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Deanna Bogart, Lil Ed and the Blues Imperials, and Sir Mack Rice.

His debut CD, Matt Wigler XIII (released in June of 2007), was produced by the great blues pianist Deanna Bogart. She says about Matt, Whether Matt's jamming on the Blues Cruise, being invited on stage with great musicians, or at home listening to those who came before, its the love and respect for music that truly propels him along.

Matt has played at many significant venues including the State Theatre in Virginia, the 8x10 Club in Baltimore, the Columbia Festival of the Arts, Artscape, the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival, the DC Blues Festival, and the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise. In October, Matt will appear at the Motor City Blues and Boogie Woogie Festival in Detroit which will be taped for broadcast on public television.

Matt plays with his band as well as other performers in the Baltimore/Washington area and across the country. His performance schedule, sound clips, photographs, and other information are available at www mattwigler com. Matt's new CD is available for purchase at www vistamusicstore com

Feedback

  • This kid is a jazz prodigy! Amazing. The band was very friendly, professional. They started right on time, and they let me use the microphone when I had to make announcements. I will use them again! -- Jason B, Brooklandville, MD, 10/10/2007
