About Vendor

One of NYC's premier bluegrass bands, The NYCity Slickers just returned from their highly successful "Mississippi Home" tour playing to sold-out houses, the renowned Morgan Freeman Blues Club - Ground Zero and the stage where the Soggy Bottom Boys filmed "O, Brother." Formed in 2008 they have been making waves in the NYC bluegrass and acoustic music scene with their high energy, eclectic, progressive sound. They have been featured on a JetBlue spot, performed live on the NBC TV show 'All Night with Joey Reynolds," a live TV performance/interview on "Something to Offer" with host Ann Marie Offer and an international radio broadcast for Centanni Broadcasting with host Johnny Mandolin. Departing from traditional male-driven bluegrass, this 8 piece band combines the wailing tight harmonies and talents of three gorgeous gal singers with the hard driving sound of five gifted musicians on banjo, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass & accordion. Their "Big Apple Bluegrass" sound has been described as a fusion of the Andrews Sisters, the Dixie Chicks & Bill Monroe resulting in theatrically inspired, toe tappin', one-of-a-kind, rockin' hot grass. The Slickers' unique "Big Apple Bluegrass" sound is a synthesis of traditional bluegrass, zydeco, delta blues & country pop. Drawing from their classically trained backgrounds, they bring creative inspiration from their multi-faceted performance careers ranging from musical theatre, Nashville stages, jazz, pop, opera, orchestral, film & TV. The NYCity Slickers' theatrical concerts thrill audiences with eclectic sets of traditional bluegrass, original tunes, gospel and covers of popular artists - Dixie Chicks, Katy Perry, Dolly Parton, Rhonda Vincent, Claire Lynch, Ashton Shepherd & Miranda Lambert. The Slickers are excited to be back in the studio recording their next album with originals they featured on tour. Their debut CD, "Layin' It Down," is an eclectic mix of musical styles that has become characteristic of the NYCity Slickers' signature sound. Composed of 13 songs including 8 originals, the album ranges in style from traditional bluegrass and Delta blues to progressive bluegrass pop. Recorded live at Dubway Studios in NYC, "Layin' It Down" is the artistic culmination of the past four years and reflects the best of the NYCity Slickers. The CD is available through iTunes, CD Baby and Amazon The Slickers regularly play all over NYC including New York's premier venues: Rodeo Bar, Rockwood Music Hall, Hill Country, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Governor's Island, Galapagos, The Jalopy, and "Take Me to the River" on Pier 84. In addition to these performance venues, The NYCity Slickers also have performed their gospel repertoire for church services in the NY and NJ area. The NYCity Slickers is available as a 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 piece ensemble, including any of the following: Vocalist, Banjo, Fiddle, Mandolin, Guitar, Accordion, Hammered Dulcimer and Bass. Recent REVIEWS "I simply want to thank you for affording me one of the most delightful and enjoyable evenings that I have spent in a long time. Your incredible musical talent is matched only by your cordiality and kindness. As a long-time fan of bluegrass music, I found yours to be absolutely enchanting. I could have listened to you all night. You all made me so proud to be from Mississippi." ~ William Winter, Former Governor of Mississippi "The singing is fabulous and impassioned, which is what modern day bluegrass could use more of. The arrangements are stellar and the material is strong." ~Tony Trischka, Grammy Nominated Banjo Legend "While their style is rooted in traditional bluegrass, the brand this 'family' band presents on their first album Layin' It Down shows off the unique background reflecting the range of its individual members. Having incorporated blues, rock, and various generations of country & western into their bluegrass-based songwriting, The Slickers offer a unique perspective and much-appreciated update on what is often labeled 'traditional'....In addition to a five-piece string band serving as the backbone, The Slickers put on one hell of a live show lead by three distinct female voices. The ladies draw the audience in through a fresh and inviting, down home welcoming presentation. Rarely do audiences stay in their seats....In addition to their bevy of original material, The NYCity Slickers offer up killer renditions of "Rocky Top," a reinvention of the blues epic "Marie Laveau," and the Billy Joel classic "Travelin' Prayer" (yea, that Billy Joel)." ~ JD Duarte, Brooklyn County "This is the first unknown family band to bring me a CD that sounds this professional and trust me, I've heard a bunch. Y'all need to be on tour!" ~ Geoff Stelling, Stelling Banjos "This is a New York based, eight-piece group fronted by three ladies whose combined deliveries make for an enjoyable project." ~ Bill Foster, "Bluegrass Unlimited," April 2012

Birthday Party (Kids)Reviewed on May 20, 2013From New York City, NY

The NYCity Slickers were AWESOME at our private party! They were super talented, loads of fun, and great to work with. We felt lucky to get such talented musicians for our little gig. I loved this band and would have liked to continue the party with them!
