DESCRIPTION:
Lady K and the Kings of Swing is a 17-piece Frank Sinatra-style big band recreating the sounds of Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Count Basie, Gershwin, Kenton, Sinatra and more. Led by saxophonist Kaye Leedham, the band features powerhouse performer and vocalist Dale Head, and many of the Bay Area's leading jazz musicians. If you have ever loved the sounds of Joe Williams, Miles Davis, Benny Goodman, Horace Silver, and Old Blue Eyes, this band is sure to put a smile on your face and have your feet dancing!In addition to big band swing, the group has a full ballroom repertoire of dance tunes that include tango, waltz, cha cha, samba, mambo, and foxtrot for dance venues that require a variety of dance styles. The band's arrangements have a slightly modern twist on the classics, which make performances exciting, contemporary and fun. Bandleader Kaye Leedham typically chats with the audience between tunes, sharing short anecdotes about the music and the original artists, making performances a fun, historical tribute that guests walk away having learned something about the music they did not know before. With Drummer Ken Bergmann leading the rhythm section, solid, tasteful and driving percussion is the backbone for our tight, soulful and stylistically correct interpretation of the jazz classics we have all grown to love. Talented jazz soloists add color to this solid and exciting musical group. The band started in 1989 and plays in many local venues in the Bay Area. The band is available for public and private events such as concerts, dances, ballroom events, weddings, corporate events, fairs, fundraisers, etc.
