Description
The Olde Thyme Harmony Quartet formed in December 2009 when they registered with the Barbershop Harmony Society. You could think of this quartet as the "Generation Gap Quartet" as they range in age from 22 years old to 72 years old. Perhaps, you may think of them as the "Pitch-Pipeless Four" as the Tenor has Perfect Pitch and there is no need for a Pitch Pipe for tuning. Although new as a foursome, they have many years of quartet experience. Olde Thyme Harmony Quartet is a Hard Working quartet with the motivation to provide your event with the best Harmony in the house on any given night. The members of the quartet are all members of the Lansing (MI) Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and sing with the Capitol City Chordsmen Chorus.
The quartet is BIG on Coaching and Competition to continue to improve on their quality of singing and their performance package. Their repertoire presently includes over 35 songs including, Barbershop Standards, Love Ballads and Up tunes as well as Gospel, Religious Classic's, Irish songs and Show tunes. They add in enough comedy to make them a quartet in demand. They strive for the overtones and smile to themselves when the hear them.
Singing LEAD is Don Horton, the olde timer in the group having been a Society member for 43 years. Don sings both LEAD & BARITONE and has sung in many quartets over the past 43 years. He is a Real Estate Broker and Appraiser and lives with his wife (of 50 plus years) Sandy in Corunna, Mi. They have 4 grown boys. Don's Love for Barbershopping began in a college quartet at Ferris State University (Ferris Institute in 1957). Don is the major spokesman for the quartet but is often backed up by surprises from other quartet members. Spontaneous Interplay can be VERY entertaining.
Singing BASS is Jim Mckay the newest member to Barbershopping having joined the chapter approximately two years ago. However, Jim has been singing most of his life in Church Choirs, Gospel Quartets, Community Choirs, and a former Choir Director, as well as a member of the renowned "Navy Blue Jacket Choir" while serving the U.S. Navy at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Jim has been a truck driver for over 40 years and currently teaches Driver Training classes for truck drivers. Jim and wife Brenda live in Owosso and have been married for 47+ years. They have two Sons and two Daughters, 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Jim's LOVE for music has been "forever" and he preference for Male Voices, a cappella, in close harmony brought him to Barbershop music.
Singing BARITONE and occasional LEAD is Dr. Tim Oliver. Tim has been a member of the Society and the Lansing Chapter for the past 8 years. He and Don sang together in the Sufficient Grounds quartet for 8 years. They also sang together in the District Senior's Championship Quartet "Weekend Agenda" prior to teaming up in the Olde Thyme Harmony Quartet and switching parts. Tim is a former member of the MSU, Spartan Marching Band. GO GREEN!! He received his medical degree from Wayne State University and completed residency in Family Practice in Saginaw. He is a member of the medical staff at Memorial Healthcare Center and works at Northside Family Practice in Owosso. He and his wife Marcia reside in Owosso. They have 4 grown boys. Tim's Love for Barbershopping began when he sang LEAD in a quartet in the fabulous MUSIC MAN performance by the Owosso Community Players about 10 years ago.
Last but NOT LEAST singing TENOR in the quartet is Jacob Welty. The baby of the quartet at 22 years of age is without a doubt the most talented of the quartet. Jacob lives in Fenton Michigan with his Mom and Dad and 5 brother and sisters. Jacob is a handyman by trade AND DOES IT ALL. Musically he does it ALL too. Jacob has perfect pitch and the voice range to sing ALL four parts. In the Capitol City Chordmen Chorus, he sings BASS, which he will tell you, is his favorite part. Since the quartet needed a TENOR, he graciously agreed to fill the part. He is a self-trained musician who has arranged several songs for the quartet.

Feedback
- The guys were great! They were very friendly with our group and their singing was absolutely fantastic!! They made the party. -- Laurie A, Davisburg, MI, 12/11/2010
- My new husband requested a song very special to us. It was one that the Quartet had not done before. They found the music, practiced and were able to perform it for us at the wedding...AND did a wonderful job.
Everyone at the reception enjoyed their performance. Having a Quartet was important to the groom. I am very glad I found the "Olde Thyme Harmony Quartet"!!
My thanks to the four of them for their warmth and effort.
The new Mrs. Diane McCorkle! -- Diane D, Dearborn, MI, 12/29/2010
- This was so much fun! We asked them to perform at our Tae Kwon Do school in Dewitt for April Fools Day! They snuck in and pretended they were from another school to open spar with us! They sang kung fu fighting and some other fun songs! The whole routine was choreographed and they worked in some inside jokes! Everybody thought it was very funny! They are extremely professional and can accommodate anybody's group! Great Job! -- T. S, Dewitt, MI, 4/1/2011
- Our people enjoyed their music and look forward to having them return sometime in the future. -- Brent C, Ypsilanti, MI, 9/25/2011
- What a wonderful group of men! They went above & beyond to make my mom's day special. They even brought her a hand-written birthday card! I would highly recommend them! -- Diane S, Port Huron, MI, 1/20/2012
