Description

In 1971 I met Lomond Nimmo, then Pipe Major of the Cincinnati Caledonian Pipes and Drums Band, who challenged me to become a Piper, and be a part of this band. I am currently a member of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Pipes and Drums, which plays a central role in all formal ceremonies of the Sheriff's Office and is also featured in many ceremonies of the local community. I have found that Piping leads me to many diverse functions, and throughout my piping career I have met and developed many close friends and relationships. I have played for the usual functions such as funerals, weddings and church services (I have been the Piper for the Navy League's Armed Forces Sunday service at Holy Cross Immaculata Church), as well as Piping the Fleet out from the bay, playing at the start of charity Walks or Runs, playing during the arrival of special guests or playing for opening ceremonies at conventions and trade shows. While the Bagpipes are not appreciated by everyone, when I am playing the Bagpipes, I feel and become part of the rich tradition of the instrument and the culture that inspired them. I truly love Piping and sharing my talent with others. If you have any questions about the instrument or it's possible application for your function, please ask. I look forward to meeting you

Feedback

  • Stephen did a great job! Our residents enjoyed his authentic bagpiping! -- Rachel D, Sharonville, OH, 3/17/2011
  • Since this was our first experience with a piper, we really didn't know what to expect but Mr. Shields was wonderful! He played perfectly and had no problem changing the plans repeatedly. He helped us choose music that fit the occasion and could be played on the pipes. This was planned as a suprise for the Bride and Groom and came off without a hitch. He helped make the event amazingly memorable for my daughter and her new husband. I couldn't have chosen a better performer for this occasion and would recommend Stephen Shields to anyone having any event that called for a bagpiper. Thank you very much Steve and God Bless you. -- Heather S, Florence, KY, 5/16/2011
  • Steven was fantastic!! The procession into our wedding with the four Rolls-Royces and the bagpipes made for quite the entrance! -- Aaron G, Cincinnati, OH, 5/27/2012
