BACKGROUND:
I am a piper with 15 years experience. I have played with McGuire's Pipe Band in Pensacola, Fl for the past 15 years (Photo #10), (I have just recently moved to Fredericksburg, Va area). As a member of McGuire's and a member of The Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel at N.A.S. Pensacola, I have played at numerous graduations, retirements, commemorations, celebrations, and festivities, as well as over 100 weddings and funerals throughout my years as a piper. In addition to being a piper, I am also a “Santa Claus” and have visited and piped in President's Park in The Ellipse in Washington, D.C. (Photo #6).
My Santa profile with GigMasters may be found at:

As to my credentials below, I am a retired naval officer and naval aviator. Incidentally, I am also affiliated with Toys for Tots with the USMC(R).
TUNES:
As indicated in the “Song List” button above, I play numerous Scottish, sacred, secular, and festive tunes and would be glad to invite your input or assist you in selecting the tunes you would like to hear to ensure you have exactly the music that you would wish from a piper. When desired in performance, I introduce not only the tune's name, but also a bit of history behind various tunes.
ATTIRE:
I have a number of attires. The first two are short sleeved shirt "military" uniforms (Photos #4 and #8) which I use, when requested, for less formal occasions, the third is my "Prince Charlie" attire (Photos #2 and #3) which I regularly use for more formal occasions (weddings, funerals, commitment ceremonies, etc.), a fourth attire is my Full Dress; kilt, double breasted tunic, piper's plaid, feather bonnet, dirk, and horse hair sporran (Photo #7). I normally have an "up-charge" of $50. 00 for this uniform except for military funerals. Also, not shown, is a "Peasant Piper" attire with peasant shirt and deer skin boots which I have worn for beach weddings. Of course, there is always my military Santa/Santa attire (Photos #5 & #6), but that may not always be appropriate... Just sayin'
"J. R. Arthur was highly professional, prompt, immaculate in appearance and totally cooperative. He added immensely to the Memorial Monument Dedication ceremony held at the National Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico, Virginia. His performance was flawless and warmly received by the Officers of the USMC Officer's Basic Class of 1957, their wives, children and grandchildren. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking a polished performer who sets a high standard on all aspects of bag piping. "

"JR played for my father's Full Honors burial at Arlington Nat'l Cemetary. He was so caring from our first telephone conversation. I always knew I could contact him with questions or requests via email or telephone. Jr also worked closely with the Arlington staff and coordinated his performance precisely and as smoothly as could be wished. JR was also costumed to perfection and with a beard so perfectly groomed for the occasion that he was truly picture perfect.
His piping was very moving and gave a deep feeling of empathy with the family´s grief.
We just really thought JR was perfect for our needs. I cannot recommend him highly enough."

"J.R. Arthur is an absolute gem. My wife and I couldn't have asked for a more professional, personable, or better piper to provide the music for our vow renewal service. J.R. went out of his way to make sure all bases were covered and didn't bat an eye when we had a last minute change in the schedule. I could go on and on singing his praises, but to save space and time the bottom line is this: Hiring J.R. Arthur, if he's available, is one of the best decisions you can make. "

"Cdr. Arthur played the pipes as a surprise to my bride after my wedding, and I can't say enough good things about him. He was eminently courteous, respectful of the ceremony and the wedding party, punctual, engaging with the kids (who were fascinated by him and asked him about his highland dress), and above all, a fine player. He even learned a new tune I requested. Cdr. Arthur turned a great day into a truly special one for all of us. I hope I have another event where he can play, and I would highly recommend him to anyone thinking of getting a piper for any event."

"On St. Patricks Day, my college hockey team and I had a large party at the team house. It was fairly rowdy, but Mr. Arthur handled it without trouble. He was an absolute hit with all the guests, and while admittedly, I have limited knowledge of bagpiping, the music he played was very enjoyable. He also was very open to the request I made for up-tempo music. Finally, he had a very good sense of when to take a bit of a break and mingle with the guests - bagpipes can of course be very loud and can make conversation difficult, so from time to time he would stop playing, which was appreciated. I would highly recommend Mr. Arthur and we hope to have him back next year!"

"Mr. Arthur was the bagpiper at the funeral of my sister. He did an exceptionally fine job, not only musically, honoring our wishes and interpreting the right choices for her memorial, but he showed great sensitivity and presence at the event itself. When due to the large crowd we were unable to begin on time, Mr. Arthur played extra selections to carry the silence and move into the funeral. I found Mr. Arthur pleasant, professional and sincerely interested in his craft and in giving us the best possible experience. "
