  • Gerry Johnston - acoustic guitar

Description

I am an acoustic jazz and classical guitarist with over thirty years of professional experience in the Boston area and throughout New England. Performances have included countless weddings, corporate events, private parties and concerts. My education includes studying jazz guitar at Berklee College of Music and classical guitar at New England Conservatory.

A particular specialty of mine is performing selections from "The American Songbook" on classical guitar. These are the great jazz and popular 'standards' by composers such as Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Richard Rogers, Carole King, Henry Mancini and a host of others. "The Songbook" has been the standard repertoire for generations of jazz musicians. This music is widely known and loved across generational lines.

I am also able to perform a good deal of classical guitar music. The traditional repertoire for classical guitar covers five centuries - everything from the Renaissance and Baroque through Classical and Contemporary periods - lots of Romantic Spanish pieces. This music is especially suitable for weddings and other special occasions.

Please read 'Customer Reviews' and listen to 'Audio Samples'. If you like what you hear and read then get in touch to discuss your event. The following song list is not nearly complete, but should give you a good idea of what to expect. On request, performances can be arranged to be all jazz, all classical or an eclectic mix.

Thank you for taking the time to review my press kit. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you should have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you.

Feedback

  • On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the highest, we'd rate him about 9 or 10. We couldn't have asked for more. He was truly a professional all the way. And a pleasure to work with (although he did all the work). Obviously we would not hesitate to recommend him. Gerry was exactly what we were looking for and hoped for... even better, actually. And, what a great system "Gigmasters" is!! Here we are living in San Diego and planning a small wedding in Rhode Island... so thanks to Gigmasters (and I guess we should thank the Internet too) for helping us create a perfect and memorable day. Peter & Alicia Gordon -- Peter G, Warwick, RI, 10/5/2008
  • Gerry was absolutely fantastic! He is a very talented guitar player and was extremely pleasant to work with. He was very helpful with providing suggestions for music during our ceremony, and added just the right touch to our dinner reception. All of my family and friends raved about him. I highly recommend Gerry! I would hire him again in a heartbeat. -- Virginia C, Sudbury, MA, 9/28/2008

  • Gerry was wonderful!! -- Julie M, Natick, MA, 9/29/2007
  • I was reluctant to hire a musician online, site unseen, however I must say that Gerry proved fantastic! Sensitive to the environment in terms of sound level & ambience, Gerry's music was a great match for our gathering of family & friends onboard the Friendship. Many thanks Gerry! -- Jessica M, Salem, MA, 9/20/2007
  • Gerry was extremely professional and very pleasant to deal with. I would definitely call on him again. Thank you for the referral! Deborah Saggese Director of Sales Hampton Inn - Dover, NH -- Deborah S, Dover, NH, 9/19/2007
  • I'll admit I was nervous about booking a guitarist online. However, I found this process easy and very efficient. I called Gerry and he returned my call right away. He arrived early to our event, he was very professional, easy to talk to, and very talented. I would recommend Gerry Johnston for any event. Amanda-Coordinator -- Amanda R, Framingham, MA, 4/12/2007
  • Gerry was great! He was very accomodating in the midst of our chaotic, loud reception. He played beautifully and added yet another layer of elegance to our reception. His repetoire of classical and jazz standards are just the right touch for such an event. He seemed to know exactly what was appropriate to play and needed very little input from us, yet was 100% open to suggestions. I'm glad I hired him and will not hesitate to hire him again. Marcus Noyes -- Marcus N, Boston, MA, 10/28/2006
  • The guests of our party noted that Gerry's music completed the occasion and inquired about how we had found such a talented musician. The guest of honor said that Gerry's playing was the perfect touch! Gerry was extremely professional. He was also extremely accesible during the planning stages of the party, in addition to being flexible in this playlist. -- Lisa G, Lawrence, MA, 6/2/2006
  • The people at my event enjoyed Gerry's music very much. I personally saw several of them request his card for future events of their own. I also really liked the ease of using your system. I don't book talent such as this very often, but will certainly come back to your site if I need to book someone in the future. Thanks. -- Nancy H, Boston, MA, 12/14/2005
  • Gerry did a great job and would hire him again! Thank you, Vanessa Williams -- Vanessa W, Nashua, NH, 12/11/2005
  • Gerry was a pleasure to work with. He was very supportive of our music request, which was to perform primarily Spanish guitar and classical guitar music, with some romantic and '40's era show tunes as well. He provided lots of samples of his repertoire so that we could provide input on what we liked best. He was prompt and efficient in all dealings. He arrived on time, and was very professional throughout. I recommend him highly for background music for a happy event. -- Eleanor P, South Dartmouth, MA, 7/23/2006
  • Gerry Johnston was wonderful for our Parent's Weekend! He arrived early and played beautifully. Parents, students, and staff were all very impressed with Mr. Johnston's talent and professionalism. -- Amy D, Warner, NH, 10/15/2011
