With Thanksgiving approaching we're starting a special time in the wedding business. Not only do 40% of all engagements take place between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day, but Thanksgiving through New Year's is it's own special "Holiday" wedding season. Nobody likes to be told the "don'ts" of a wedding, so if you're planning a holiday wedding for either 2011 or 2012, we'll give you some "DOs" to keep in mind.

DO book early! We always recommend booking entertainment and other vendors as soon as possible, but this is especially important during the holiday season when vendors have so many other personal and professional commitments.

DO stay organized. As much organizing as regular wedding planning takes, don't forget that getting married does not absolve you of all of your normal holiday tasks. What's more, since everyone is busy this time of year, you may not be able to count on as much help as you would during a different time of year.

DO take advantage of sales! You won't find a lot of great deals on vendors or venues this time of year, but if you're a DIY bride, you can save a lot of money on supplies before and after the holidays. Your shower hosts and those buying you gifts can also save some money, although keep in mind that most people don't have a lot of extra money this time of year.

DO think about your guests and the guest list. In town guests, with family in town, generally love a holiday wedding. But for out of town guests, or those with strong holiday traditions, a holiday wedding can be difficult. Travel is expensive and the pull to stick with family traditions can be especially hard this time of year. Don't be offended or hurt if guests you expected just find that they can't make it. The same goes for bridal showers!

DO remember your own "reason for the season." Whatever your believe system, this is a special time of year meant to celebrate family, generosity and togetherness. Try and relax and enjoy the season, and remember that the world is bigger than your wedding.
