Like all things wedding related, engagement photos have undergone a radical "re-think" in recent years. Just ten years ago or so, most people didn't even have an engagement photo session, or "E-session" as they're called now. If you expected your wedding announcement to appear in the newspaper, you might go to a local photographer's studio and get a portrait taken. Today though, E-sessions are widely touted as a great way to get to know a potential photographer, and a great way to get some less formal, more exciting pictures taken before your wedding.
Most wedding blogs feature engagement photo sessions almost as frequently as they feature real weddings. These photos often resemble fashion shoots and you might start to wonder what exactly the couple will do with the photos. Check out this photo from Michael Rastall Photography featured on Style Me Pretty. It would look great in a magazine, but will it hang in the couple's living room?
Lately, like weddings in general, engagement photos are getting more personal and playing up the couples' interests, as well as poking a little fun at the whole institution. A few months ago this zombie-infused e-session from Amanda Rynda hit the Internet and people loved it.
The whole shoot is hilarious, and I hope it got the photographer some great attention, but what will the couple do with these photos? And what about this newest Star Wars inspired photo session from Michael James photography? At least the zombie couple had some great shots before the zombie attack that they might use for something else, again, what will this couple do with the photos from this shoot?
Are you having an engagement session? If you already did so, what are you doing with the photos? What do you think of the trend? Let us know in the comments below.
